Does anyone not see the irony in Intel hiring someone who helped develop China's semiconductor scene as its CEO? Weren't they so scared of selling off secrets to China? Not sure what they are thinking here. Unless they are admitting Intel has no secrets to sell off.

Some interesting news, especially for members in Texas.

A while back there was this story of a prisoner swap between US and China. One person who was swapped back was Jin Shanlin who was a PhD student in Southern Methodist University, Texas.

He was basically caught torrenting child porn? I thought maybe it was planted evidence or something but his statements are a bit incriminating.

Anyways, recently Texas passed a bill that incriminates any depiction of a child (under 18) engaging in "obscene" activities, regardless of whether the depiction is an image of an actual child, a cartoon or animation, or an image created using an artificial intelligence application or other computer software.

He said it sucks that all this cool technology you see in China, many countries will never have because people will ruin it. Like in China you got these robot KFC trucks or automatic stores. You cannot have it in America for example coz some urban youths will probably try to destroy it and ruin it for the rest of us. Just remember in 7/11s we have drinks locked behind steel cages because people cannot be trusted.

Let's not beat around the bush here: just what did he and/or do you mean by "urban youths?" :)

A fully armed EU will definitely get involved in the Pacific. Don't be fooled by their puppy dog demeanor they've adopted, when awoken they will be even more unbearable than the Americans.

You don't think sooner or later the member states of the European Union will just go back to fighting each other as they did for hundreds of years, if not arguably longer?

News Flash Gordon, you are partially Chinese! What if some Red Neck caved your head in during a bout of patriotic fever?

Gordon Chang is practically the real life inspiration for a Dave Chappelle character who is black and hates "niggers," except he's part Chinese and a graduate of the Ivy League . . .

I saw a comment on Reddit that made me think.

It's not even a money thing. It's just people cannot be trusted to not be assholes.

You know, back during Jiang and Hu's eras, China would've had the similar problems to what you've mentioned.

The fundamental key to a healthy and prosperous society is trust. Xi and his administration really went on real pedal to the medal to make that into reality. That's why people can leave their laptops and tablets on any coffee shops in busy shopping streets and malls and not having to worry about them getting stolen, compared to 20 or even 10 years ago.

In contrast, the American societal fabric is acutely lacking what China has, and I really see no chances of it getting better anytime soon as things are only going to get worse.

I remain on the stance that a military clash is coming at some point. Their inevitable defeat in Ukraine will make them desperate.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind the EU sending their entire navies to China's doorstep to "destroy the Chicoms and protect the democratic Wanwans".

China would be doing the entire Global South (except India and the Philippines, as they are welcomed to join the EU's adventure) a massive favor by sinking their entire navies there, and leave the EU defenseless against the refugee hordes coming from Africa and West Asia thanks to their own doing over the past centuries.
