At the rate the Manila elites are turning the Philippines into another Armenia or Georgia -like hostile but impotent state, I'm afraid that they might just provoke a war. If not if with China, then maybe with other adversaries like Malaysia.

Do they not get that they'll just lose massive land to China? The whole nation of Philippines have less air defense than one of those Chinese islands in the SCS.
Chaos is only good if you win something during it. The Marcos regime is on an extremely stupid path which can only be explained by their colonial mentality. They see "support" from US like Muslims think Allah is behind them. At least Allah is a metaphysical concept, US is only human, human with less economy, less industry and worse technology than other humans in China. Even if US had enough air defenses, jets and missiles to cover all their needs, they wouldn't be able to give it all to the Philippines.
The PH should have a higher chance of provoking a war with Malaysia rather than China. Much higher chance of winning, less risk of panicking Uncle Sam, and more land to gain by taking Sabah. But both nations have terrible militaries, so its gonna look like an ugly bar brawl between two overweight drunks, rather than a proper fight.
