What if Russia took up Trump and the Republicans' offer to do a reverse Nixon against China? The Republicans are going orgasmic to this believing this is a slam dunk. Problem is what makes them think this is in their favor? Remember Sri Lanka went through decades of civil war with the US and India involved and then China stepped-in supporting the Tamil Tigers and they won after a year. I don't know if there's anyone that stupid in Russia to the think joining the US is the way to greener pastures but China can switch sides that easily too if they dared. You don't think Ukraine will have a chance now? The reason why Republicans have always had a secret love for Russia is because they see them as more a positive to help them in making sure white supremacy rules the world. They loved the unabashed racism Russia expressed for Obama. That's why they so want a Russian partnership where they will cross the line in international affairs where the US will be afraid to. They think Putin is Trump's lapdog... still and they can get Russia to do all its dirty work around the world. But as usual the Achille's Heel of the US is everything they do cost more for them to do than for China.
Original Nixon only worked because Mao was pissed with Khrushchev due to his idiocy and the des stalinization policy. If soviet union would have elected a Stalinist leader the history would have been very different.
Putin and Xi has obviously extraordinary relations between themselves, and strategically for them is of paramount importance to have their back covered by each other.
I guess the Trump reverse Nixon to Russia is going to end much more in US and Russia carving European Union together. This has far more sense from a strategic point of view.
US NEEDS to re industrialize itself, it cannot do it at the expense of China, but it can do it easily at the expense of Europe.
Plan A of the US was to break Russia into submission and from there isolated China to blockade and change regimen there. This plan miserably failed when they were not able even to scratch Russia economically and they were not able to defeat Russia with its ukrainan proxy.
Now that realist took over the US the plan B is clear
Plan B. You realize you are not a superpower any more. If you cant defect Russia you can only dream of defeating China. Therefore you need to accept (or at least prepare) for
multi polar world.
US advantages are there. It still have a lot of natural resources. It still has a wonderful geographic situation. But it has a des industrialized imperial economy that will not allow it to sustain any big power conflict
It needs industry -> Where to take it? From Europe. -> Tariffs to Europe together with relaxation with Russia and importing natural resources from there. European products become noncompetitive. European economies tanks.
Later the US can offer work visas to any European worker it needs.
With the tanking of european industries russia gets also millions of russians or russian descendant in Europe (indeed I know several russian and even one ukrainan that left EU to come back to Russia).
End. US still have issues to solve but it emerge to the new workd as one of the powers. Not as powerful as China but still a force to be reckoned
