This has nothing to do with my point.
The fact of the matter is that Russia has become kind of a liability to China. Involving Russia in Asia-Pacific only incentivizes the Europeans to increase their presence there and antagonize China, increasing trade with Russia only incentivizes the Europeans to cut their trade relations with China and view it as an enemy, defending Russia's war in Ukraine calls into question China's principled stance against imperialism and its role as a peacemaker. So if anything, China's deepening relations with Russia is the biggest driver of partitioning the world economy and bloc confrontation. This doesn't mean that China should abandon Russia (which would signal China is an unreliable ally), but distancing themselves from Russia (geopolitically but not economically) makes sense and is in China's interests.

Trump cut your funding, why are you still at this? Or are you truly so silly as to be doing this for free?

Is there any point to Chinese courting of Europe ? I suppose it doesn't hurt to try, but Europe is pretty much a lost cause, right ? No matter how much Trump humiliates them, when it's time to pick a side we all know who Europe will align itself with.

BEIJING, Feb 17 (Reuters) - China's foreign ministry said on Monday that "healthy and stable" China-EU relations are needed now more than ever, after a push by the United States to initiate Ukraine peace talks with Russia without Europe threatened to rock transatlantic ties.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance's criticism of Europe over censorship of free speech and failing to control immigration at the Munich Security Conference on Friday did little to soothe ties with EU leaders in attendance.
In contrast, China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi used his address to say that all stakeholders in the Russia-Ukraine war should participate in any peace talks, including the European Union.
"China with the European side... will inject new vitality into China-EU relations to provide more certainty and stability in a turbulent world," Guo Jiakun, a ministry spokesperson, said in response to a question on the significance of China's ties with Europe as transatlantic relations face uncertainty after U.S. President Donald Trump took office last month.

It is better to seize the moral high ground. Besides, it is in China’s interest to uphold international collaboration values even in such chaotic times.

It’s more like China is actively trolling America and the EU at this point.

Daddy Trump bitch slaps the Europeans repeatedly and the EU heads all either immediately put their Out of Office on to avoid having to make a comment before getting their talking points from Washington or puts out such pathetically weak American ass kissing statements it’s hard for even the brainwashed sheeple of the EU to not get annoyed.

China is coming in to say we should be friends and work for our own mutual self interests. The EU can either welcome China’s advances and embrace the easy and obvious lifeline China is throwing them to hedge against American abuse, or it can further alienate its own people by rejecting China’s help and further embracing America’s abusive control.

Same with Ukraine. Trump wants to hammer out a deal with Putin and then just impose it on the EU and Ukraine. China is actually mostly helping Putin resist pressures both internal and external for negotiations by asking Ukraine and the EU also get seats at the table to bog down negotiations to give Putin more time.

It’s deeply hilarious that China gets to score powerful diplomacy points so easily for basically no cost while actively advancing its own aims by just being fucking reasonable and fair.
