I posted something similar to this a few days ago, I said that what Trump and co want to do is build the US to a leaner and meaner machine. As far as this confrontation against China; the US will lose if their obsessive focus is on trying to contain China, no matter how much cost cutting they do. China will lose if it wants to play the game the US wants it to play; direct confrontation. So far China isn't taking the bait but I fear a younger generation who didn't experience the Cold War between the US and the USSR will lead China into direct confrontation.

As for Musk, he doesn't seem to be pragmatic enough to realize Trump can only protect him for a max of 4 years, assuming Trump doesn't kick him to the curb by then. He is pissing off many powerful people on a personal level. They'll be gunning for him.

Also why is Musk dragging his kid everywhere ? Is he using his kid as a shield to deter assassination attempts ?
