"It went to 0 overnight. Decimated. This is what total devastation looks like."

You might be giving the CIA a little too much credit.

When operating overseas, CIA officers almost always present themselves as officials or staff from sister agencies like the State Department.

So while they can be PNG'd, their black passports tend to preclude anything more severe.

There's been chatter for at least a decade about upping the CIA's NOC workforce, but kind of skeptical the CIA has any long term NOCs in China right now, especially after Evan Gershkovich got picked up in Russia.

You know, it's almost as if the CIA had a large group of disgruntled employees who were about to get fired :p

According to NYT, the list consisted of recent hires from the past two years, and operatives can take a lot longer to train than that. So doubtful anyone operational in a non-permissive environment got burned.

If anything, whoever botched this -- if that was indeed the case -- might have thought they were saving their babies/mentees/subordinates from what they envision would be Trump's inevitable betrayal down the road.

> Might as well as burn their names now rather than let Trump burn them in the field.

It could be smoke and mirrors but don't underestimate the stupidity of Trump's people and their disregard for protocols. Hell, Trump himself tweeted one of the only images from a top secret KH-11 imaging satellite.

Trump's critics wanted to make a fiasco out of the publication of that imagery, but kind of doubtful anyone who does IMINT professionally was surprised by the resolution.

Seeing stuff like this I find it fascinating that even in a place this intellectually advanced as this, some people still cling to the idea that there will be some magic deals, negotiations, or spheres of influence with the US and China.

But no, that’s just not how this works. The Americans are too deluded and too primal for that kind of arrangement, and their entire practical survival strategy now depends on maintaining relentless, all-encompassing pressure.

The moment they 'give up' even an inch, they’re done as a nation economically from the bottom tier people that live off being able to absorb and internally resell global goods around with global internationalized dollars to oligarchs that depend on it for their global siphoning asset Ponzi schemes to the government that also rely on this system for its massive deficits.

Trump isn't cutting back on peripheral efforts because he wants to he’s doing it because they believe they have to do so temporarily to re-focus their power elsewhere. The focus is shifting only to China, Russia, and Iran, but mostly China. The plan? "Take them down" first, then restart all those global intelligence interference operations once they’re back on top and continue.

There are only two possible outcomes here: 1. The US collapses internally before it gets to attack China. 2. It collapses while attacking China.

Rising hopelessness, social alienation, and deaths of despair (drug overdoses, alcoholism, and suicide) also mirror the Soviet collapse.

Let me enhance the understanding of the grim situation even further: hyper-aggressive society + desperation, what could go wrong, hum.

Canada has a low De minimis and Temu is doing fine here. Walmart and Amazon will also be affected by tariffs against China so I don't Temu has much to worry about.
I think Temu and Shein will be fine. They can just set up warehouses in the US.

Who runs BBC nowadays? All propaganda and race baiting.
I'm shocked, shocked, to find out that BBC receives funding from USAID!

Imagine DeepSeek's CEO is as homicidal as Palantir's. Just another reason why the US will lose its competition with China: the US' ruling class is full of sociopaths.

Palantir's executive: competition in AI is "zero-sum and winner-takes-all".

Next time someone whines that DeepSeek engages in censorship, show them the flowing charts:

Looks like we need to stick to using Chinese language for the authentic CHAD-XI-PT experience.
To them AI speaking in Chinese is like whispers from Lovecraftian evil, capable of indoctrinating people's mind from mere words.

As someone on weibo pointed out, ChatGPT o3-mini thinking out aloud in Chinese is very Lovecraftian to them. Imagine you've just slammed the door on a massive antediluvian creature and retreated back to your sanctum of western chatbot. Then you ask your butler to tell you some encouraging words to sooth your nerves only to have him suddenly start mumbling in the same devil tongue as the creature on the other side of the door.

We think it's funny because we're actually the Deep Ones already.
