You literally have people reminiscing about the British Empire in the thread comments… Shades of Hong Kong 2019.
When asked about U.S. President Donald Trump's 30-day pause on tariffs on Canadian goods, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told CNN, 'Canada is bending the knee, just like Mexico.' But Pat Ryan, a Democratic congressman from New York, said, 'Trump got rolled.'
- But China fights back with 10% additional tariffs on large displacement vehicles and pickup trucks on top of the 15% already levied on all vehicle imports, in addition to crude oil and agricultural machinery, as well as additional 15% tariffs on imported coal and LNG originating from the US, as retaliatory measures.
- These will go into effect next Monday, February 10, according to a notice from the Customs Tariff Commission of China's State Council published on February 4.
- What was announced will mainly affect imported passenger vehicles with engine displacement larger than 2.5L, gasoline/diesel/hybrid pickup trucks below 5 tons, battery electric pickup trucks and trailers/semi-trailer for farm use.
- To put this in perspective, China imported just over 700,000 vehicles in 2024, according to CPCA, and the U.S. was the third largest importer behind Japan and Germany, accounting for just over 1/7 (just under 110,000) of total vehicle imports.
- This is obviously going to affect Ford, Lincoln, GM (Cadillac, Buick, Chevrolet), and Stellantis Group brands (Jeep, Chrysler and Dodge) that still import vehicles into China, including models like the F150 Raptor, Lincoln Navigator, Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Tahoe, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Grand Cherokee.
- Interestingly enough, GM recently announced the official import of the GMC Yukon following the Chevrolet Tahoe into China through Durant Guild. Tahoe retails at RMB648K-728K ($90K-$100K), while Yukon retails for RMB800K-900K ($110K-$120K). I believe some should be already on the ground in China but this is obviously going to create headaches.
In other news, 丁胖子金牌讲师 hasn't posted a youtube update in over 2 weeksThe first planeloads of criminal migrants detained in President Trump’s crackdown of illegal immigration have departed for Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, where a small migrant detention center could be expanded to house tens of thousands.
Two planes carrying migrants have departed this week, with one departing from Fort Bliss, Texas, carrying about a dozen people, .
Guantanamo Bay has traditionally been used to house foreign terrorists captured by the US, but has always had room — about 120 beds — to house migrants caught trying to sneak into the US through the Gulf of Mexico.

China struck back against U.S. tariffs with levies on , into Google and restrictions on Chinese . The moves escalated a new trade war between the world's two largest economies.
Just after American tariffs of 10% on China went into effect early Tuesday morning, . Its measures will go into effect on Feb. 10. The Trump administration .
President Trump said the tariffs on China were just "an opening salvo." He added: "If we can't make a deal with China, then the tariffs would be very, very substantial." A U.S. official said Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping , despite by trade adviser Peter Navarro that they would hold a conversation about a potential tariff pause.
Nah, at this point, as he told you, this is not about optics and economics anymore.
They legit see that the US is about to collapse and preparing to give it the final push.
Or else they wouldn't give such swift, disproportional, and multi-dimensional retaliation.
I think this time Beijing actually hopes that Trump continues the trade war, increases tariffs, etc,
Not stop as during his first time. Beijing is not on the defensive anymore, as you could see in the last few months.
They hope to pile on now even more economic problems on top of all the other imperial crumbling and collapse-level BS Trump has done.
