If they don’t get at least Okinawa as part of the negotiations then China deserves to get ruled by Chinese libs for another 500 years. Taiwan is core national interest and not for trading.

I think they are trying to buy time for themselves to rebuild by dangling the carrot. No reason to believe the paranoid China Hawks are all of a sudden going to stop being paranoid China Hawks and sing kumbaya with the Chinese.

I agree with you in principle that Taiwan is core interest and not for US to trade, but on the other hand a peaceful reunification could potentially avoid six digit PLA causality in the worse case and unknown number of Taiwanese deaths, we have to weigh that up.
I'm very confident that once DPP and KMT are convinced US really is planning to sell Taiwan they would scramble over each other trying to make their own deal. These guys want to have a cushiony seat at the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and not hanging from street lights after reunification, they can offer a pretty good price and there's nothing in principle against making deals with ROC given all the civil war historical examples. TSMC would probably be out of question though given kill switch.
