First Oracle, now Microsoft trying to acquire TikTok. Who’s next?
Nevermind ByteDance, notice how neither Microsoft nor Oracle themselves even said they want to (probably because they know China won't let them), all talk on this subject are entirely about Trump wanting Oracle and Microsoft to do so....

Chinese AI companies didn't need to open source everything, simply under-cutting prices is enough to mess with American AI, open-sourcing everything means China is going for anhiliation... Trump is like the cocky unaware teen at the begining of a horror movie right now.

Humor aside, the Soviet Union was a superpower but it is interesting to think Sputnik was the only time it seriously challenged the West's tech supremacy before the long decline of the 70s and 80s. Sputnik would be fitting if China broke through in one core technology, but China already did that with telecomms and since the year began we've been getting almost one tech breakthrough a month. In which case the Sputnik comparison gets rendered moot.

Rather, this is a moment that defies historical comparison, at least as far as the Cold War is concerned, and is better categorized as the beginning of a new chapter, nay, a new volume in history.
Soviet Union was practically decouple from West and almost defeated US led order if not for Arabs.
Soviets built Buran automated Space Shuttle, they built Mir space station with much smaller GDP and computing power. those were things they could have built on it. Even this Tu-214/IL-96 by now exceeding 1000 with much greater improvements. They were the first with longest range FBW.
I am not sure why people are fixated on Sputnik. US took wrong lesson from Sputnik and allow Europe to surpass it in most parameters of quality of life. this has major impact on US migration. Europe would be long bankrupt if it does not have Airbus. This is the core technology. That rise of Arab wealth is directly tied to Aviation and that has transformational impact much more than these internet bubbles. This small Georgia would not have stand up to EU if they not have this backing over and under the table.
you can add Serbia to it. only when Arabs took interest in it could maintain this neutral position.

I wonder if China is very close to EUV , efficient DUV or complete semiconductor supply chain then we think they are at. Seems they are just publicly flexing hard the past month rather than hiding their strength, unafraid of likely call for even more tech sanctions from the derange us hawks.
Closer than most people think to the real deal

This gives a major false flag feeling to me. Coincidentally it happened now right after Trump was inaugurated, extra military units were sent to the border and Trump started his deportation campaign.
If Russia isn't paying bounties to the cartels for every CBP agent they can snipe and sending them boatloads of FPV drones, they're officially pussies who deserve every bit of abuse the West subjects them to. Seeing as they're supposedly even doing things like trying to smuggle incendiary bombs onto commercial aircraft, hopefully they can find the balls to take advantage of this situation and pull off some spicy stuff.

I like how Singapore is getting flak because the H100 stockpile conspiracy naturally looks at them thinking they are middleman:

It feels like how diaspora fence sitters get pressured to be either wumao or 反贼 and nothing in between, and Singapore's whole thing is they do fence sitting at a country level. Now they're getting similar pressure to get off the fence as a country.

It's never not funny that there are more Americans and Westoids dissecting Deepseek and sprewing conspiracy theories than there are actual people working at Deepseek.

You with the fking Arabs again, many people can bring interesting takes on this complicated subject, you should just bring silence.

From the FT:

Donald Trump said advances in artificial intelligence by Chinese start-up DeepSeek were a “wake-up call” for US industries.

The president said he had been reading about AI companies in China and “one in particular” — DeepSeek — appeared to be “faster” and also “much less expensive”.

Trump said in Miami on Monday that if the company’s claims were true, he viewed it as a “positive”.

“The release of DeepSeek AI from a Chinese company should be a wake-up call for our industries that we need to be laser-focused on competing to win,” the president continued.

Trump said he wanted to “unleash” US tech companies and “dominate the future like never before.”
That's a surprisingly calm take from Trump

I believe the bubble will hold for a while, since it takes more than a few pricks to deflate one. It might even last until end of next quarter, since GPUs are preordered.

And until then, you can bet Sam the super scammer and Elon will be spinning new AI narratives for investors to buy into. Financialized markets are hype not reality.

Sam has lost all credibility but Elon, as COO of USA, may have what it takes to bring NVIDIA (and by extension, half the pension funds in America), back from the brink.

I'm thinking big datacenters will actually still be important to AI, otherwise there would be no reason for Bytedance to be having Oracle build several mega-datacenters in Malaysia for them.
