It's not a surprise if you saw that r/antiwork mod Fox News interview. Maybe that sub was a psyop from the first place.
This was used to protest censorship and lack of housing during the 2019 Hongkong protest. Now it is being used to protest censorship, lack of housing, and rise of fascism in you know where.

Came across this news two weeks ago. I think they might drop the wall for those special economic zones, but I'm thinking its mostly businesses. Those businesses can afford a VPN or direct line to outside internet anyways though. I don't think this is related to the opening up from the very top imo. This is just the usual news of Shanghai legislators wanting to be special in China.
Well trialling new policy first in special economic zones and then if successful widen the scope is pretty standard policy, Deng would be proud.
