I must say, this XHS event has made me reconsider my future plans of a Ming style reconquista of the North American continent; but That aside, China was always the most humane society in comparison to its peers in any dynastic period, you get jack London style advocates in the west because that’s a Reflection of western Anglo culture.

american seeing the humanity of Chinese culture based simply from the ToS of XHS.

It truly speaks volumes that that same Anglo western culture only accepts and encourages broken societies like the wars and prostitution and rapes it perpetrated on the Koreans and viets and Chinese under American occupation.

Feels awfully early to start poaching influencers from other sites before the dust settles no? While it took the US half a decade to ban TikTok finally, very feasible that they don’t take as long again if they want to. Or people just get bored and leave. Feels like a very myopic strategy imo.

Also even with a better algorithm, I think they know that the main appeal is just being able to interact with Chinese. If you remove it, I don’t think there is much room for growth unless leadership is really that myopic. Would be funny if the fumble is from the company itself being dumb than any government intervention.

1. Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act is the US legislation that is imposing TikTok's ban-or-sale. Per its verbiage, it is applicable to any "foreign adversary" controlled app with over one million active monthly users, which means Xiaohongshu will likely qualify.

2. I agree with you that it might be a bit premature for Xiaohongshu to be expending capital on user acquisition in the US, and they probably know it too, unless (a) the amount they're "wagering" is negligible, and/or (b) they have non-public knowledge on how the Trump administration will be enforcing the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act moving forward.

Based on what I've seen, American "Tik-tok refugees" are predominantly dancing young girls in skimpy clothes and effeminate men. Not exactly a revolution material.
You should not trust your eyes ALONE. The most visible and loudspeaking people are often not representitive of the mass, there is always a silent majority. That is MORE true in the social media era. I did not use TikTok before Trump's threat of banning 2 years ago, now I spend more time on TikTok than X, almost abandoned FB. I am sure I am not alone. Our family did not buy anything HW before the ban, now we have HW phones, laptop and watches, we don't brag about it in social media. Now I am a Rednote user too just out of curiosity, I am from Europe, so I am just a new user. How can you tell the silent new users including Americans like me apart from the showy "refugees"? It's not like all TikTokers are skimpy clothed girls, nor are these girls the only ones being rebellious.

Since your are arguing against "revolution", I must say that the most vocal discontent in the buildup of a revolution never sound like revolution, they all start with demand of food, fuel, sallary, then turned to destroying every piece of the system, all revolutions start from the discontent of the mass. Very often the most vocal in the front only do the trigger and quickly replaced by people who have deeper thoughts and well-orgnized agendas, see the French, Russin and Chinese revolutions.

BTW, I don't think this TikTok is going to start a revolution yet, but saying that it is one of many early snow balls sliding down the slop which eventually will lead to an avalanche.
