Tom Cotton should just stick with his namesake and go pick cottons at Xinjiang instead of cosplaying a state senator.

But some American users of Chinese heritage are already lamenting and disheartened by the rumoured plan of Xiaohongshu to create a separate server that will host foreign IP separate from the mainland.Extension to that thought.
Apple users need to switch to Apple's Mainland China or HK App store to download Douyin. I'm assuming HK allows foreign credit cards so maybe no problem there. If any foreigners are feeling risky they can try Apple's Chinese Mainland App store which requires some sort of Chinese financial institution. I'm not sure how this could work, but perhaps it would lead to foreigners opening up bank accounts with Chinese banks.
Once users switch to Chinese app stores, they'll discover more of China's App ecosystem, not just social media. Big things could be happening.

Editorial from People's Daily, talking about XHS in supportive tone. Note in second last paragraph the author quotes Xi saying hope for future relationship between China and US lies with the people.
I've heard from two sources (Prof Shen Yi and Ayi) saying this event has support from visionary individual from above. I'm guessing when People's Daily throw their hat in and quote Xi like that that's a "if you don't like it and want it changed you're going to have to talk to the boss" type signal, because let's be honest there are heaps of libs in government too.
Yep! Or Tom Tuttle from Tacoma in the early Tom Hanks movie "Volunteers".
