China is a major national security threat simply because China can say, "No!" Look at how their long prediction that China would become democratic and reform to the US's and the West's liking as it adopted capitalism. When did China promised that? The US needed China during the Cold War against the Soviet Union. You think around when the West was supporting dictators around the world that they cared about such things? If China doesn't do the most simple things like accept European sanctions on China for not being good to their liking and they expect China not to retaliate, they're certainly not going do anything more serious for them.
Kevin O'Leary says he's on the inside track of getting to buy TikTok because he's the only one that has submitted to Biden and Trump his plan for owning TikTok. Like China won't have a say who gets to buy TikTok? And get this... He's calling on India to come back to TikTok after he gets to own it. I thought the deal was the US only gets to operate the US operations. O'Leary says he doesn't want TikTok's algorithm because he's going to make a better one. If it were that easy, why wasn't there an American version of TikTok earlier so they wouldn't have to look like a denier of free speech to the world?

The XHS migration is important not so much that new users are also exposed to Chinese netizens and way of life, since preselection bias means these Americans were already slightly pro-Chinese, but widespread social media acknowledgement of XHS and the new social acceptability of being pro-Chinese.
Prior to this, a pro-China/essentially neutral safe space practically did not exist, with the exception of select internet corners such as this esteemed forum, and brave but small orgs like Code Pink.
For US, the damage is done and the smart thing to do would be to keep TikTok and hope that XHS is a temporary trend that will fade away from Gen Z consciousness. The dumb thing to do would be to ban TikTok, and the worst move would be to also try and ban XHS, thereby victimizing the TikTokers even further.

Can someone do a wellness check on Chinese E-thots? I don't know how to reach them, but I can see competition for attention is brutal right now and their tips must have dropped off a cliff. They should form a lobby and demand the Chinese government to setup barriers to protect them from the west's overproduction of 女菩萨.
As an aside, I'm worried that if there is one group that might complaint and apply pressure to kick the foreigners off Xiaohongshu, it's China's 小仙女.
Some people spreading rumours that Xiaohongshu is planning to wall off foreigners in the app. I think this is a huge mistake, the Chinese government should step in and stop them. China is strong and confident enough now, it is the west who should be scared of the free exchange of information between the people, besides Xiaohongshu was full of liberals before anyways.
