To summarize the thoughts of two of my friends, there is a certain appeal to the censorship on these Chinese platforms at the moment.

Right now, western social media seems to be inundated with extremist viewpoints, ie. You talk about being 600 genders or you are a homophobe. If you don’t want to lynch immigrants, you are a libtard. You support BLM, otherwise you are a racist N-word user. If you support common sense gun control, you are a flag-burner. Etc. While Chinese censorship may be too heavy handed, at the same time, any middle ground in the western political climate has eroded.
Yea my hope is that it doesn’t end up being too politically polarized in the end besides Luigiposting. I think political censorship is fine as long as people have a safeish standard of living which both the US and China have now. People frankly don’t care that much about politics besides treating it like sports teams. I think it’s also likely that USians just end up not posting really dumb stuff as it seems like they know that they are “refugees” using a site meant for others (to my total surprise). Most people just want to talk about their day or engagement bait regarding their lives in which if this is all they do, I think the situation will remain fairly good (similar to how Mihoyo just walked by most controversies because most people just want to play game and gamble).
The XHS situation is what winning is. Back in the Tang dynasty, there were also many courtesans flocking to China.

This is legitimately my second time using XHS, and I've gotta admit the algorithm is pretty good. I've been trying to get my timeline filled with hot blondes just to see how Chinese netizens are reacting. Apparently XHS knows what I really like and decides to serve me with AfD's Alice Weidel Chinese fan edits ;) You should see how the new German Tiktok refugees are engaging with the native Chinese community.
Chinese recommendation algorithms are just much better than western ones, it doesn’t make sense as other people have pointed out already. Although my only experience is with bilibili and xhs. I remember being on bilibili around a year ago and I clicked on some Ukrainian girl clearly thirst baiting Chinese dudes and somehow the entire recommended feed and home page just became Slavic girls thirst baiting in Chinese. Meanwhile using YouTube will just recommend some dumb podcast like lex friedman or Mr beast no matter what I watch.

As entertaining as this xhs situation had been, I saw an argument saying that this will most likely end up being a net negative. The culture clash plus heavy moderation after the honeymoon period might end up being more of a negative overall? What does everyone else think? I think that it’s highly dependent on whether or not tiktok gets banned. If it survives, most people will probably just return with a small percentage staying as it can be fun and novel so any conflict will be quite minimal. But to me it seems like there’s quite a high chance of massive conflict between the two user bases if they stay given their differences. I think it’s good that to give Chinese people exposure to how actual Americans talk and think vs how libs romanticize them so hopefully the situation doesn’t sour too much. I remember Chinese games like Genshin constantly had controversy with the non-Chinese audience but they pushed through it every time as far as I can tell so it would be nice if it happens again even though situation is different.
What make you think Chinese people don't already know how actual Americans talk and think?
The only thing that'll happen is Americans finding out the world outside their information prison isn't as bad as their rulers wants them to think, and that information prison is one of the main pillars holding the evil empire together.

pmc I love you man but your posts are too cryptic! In your infinite Arab wisdom, just say do you think my bold prediction is likely to come true or not. A lot of people are expecting an end to the Ukraine war this year, I think meeting at China during the 80th anniversary victory of Japan celebration would be a good place to negotiate the terms for US and Russia.
US and Russia negotiation is good if China can manage it but this Ukraine war is separate issue. As long as Europe want to keep it afloat it will continue. It is far easier for Arabs to discipline (I am using polite phrase) Islamic world with Europe in decline but not decline so fast it cannot produce things like Airbus. Russia has to manage this expectations of managed war. This gain in Arabic Soft Power is worth the price.
