Sure, and Yoon is their man ala Marcos is for Philippines. I'm not convinced US will oppose a coup in the name of democracy if it meant keeping their candidate in power. Assuming coup was successful of course.
I mean, when Chun Doo-hwan did it did they stop him?
Is there a connection w the "mini coup" and the "NK in Ukraine" narrative?

Biden's administration can't back Yoon, Sullivan and Campbell already criticized Yoon. If Yoon doesn't get impeached, Trump would be emboldened to try something similar to remove democrat politicians.

I think they will oppose because if Yoon takes dictatorship, SK will become extremely shit and it will reflect very poorly on US.

It's not certain US wants SK to join in an eventual invasion of China. Imho it simply provides a front that's easy for the defenders to counterattack. Like it would have been if Russia brought Belarus into the SMO.

SK may be more valuable to America being in peace and trading with "both" sides, since they can help US replenish finished semiconductors, while China doesn't need the same help. Although, China would probably just block it regardless of SK neutrality.

The opposition party, which would stay neutral in an unprecedented US aggression against China, may be the best party for US interests.

I mean, isn't Ukraine extremely shit right now? When was the last time Zelensky won a general election?
If the coup was successful then truth would be what Yoon and his gang say it is. You think they wouldn't be able to fabricate "evidence" of North Korean penetration into South Korean opposition parties? Then once the state of national emergency is justified with these "evidence" you think US really wouldn't stand behind their man and say martial law is necessary in the face of North Korean threat?
