Don't underestimate the unconscious racism. I suspect many at some level in the US remain skeptical that the Chinese weapons really work as well as claimed, due to this racism. Just think of how prior to WWII, Western aviation specialists and military figures were skeptical of Japanese airplanes and aviation, due to the racist belief that Asians had poor eyesight and therefore could not possibly design good airplanes or be good pilots. They were therefore shocked upon first contact with the Japanese Zero fighter.
I think their views of the DF-41 and other Chinese weapon systems are similarly influenced by this unconscious racism so they find it difficult to believe what data they do have and have an inclination to believe the data is exaggerated.

That's like saying they don't see Chinese drones blowing up all their tanks in Ukraine.
They see it, there's nothing they can do about it, so they either pretend to not see it to save face, or ignore it and hope for the best out of desperation.
People do incredibly stupid and self defeating things when desperate, China should make sure their desperation are well rewarded.
