If the German government really wanted the tariffs not to be applied they could have lobbied other EU countries to do it. Volkswagen Group has factories in several countries for example and they could have lobbied those countries to vote against the tariffs. The fact this was not done means they tacitly accept the tariffs and made mostly a show of opposition.

Here's a case from the past as to why you should always choose diplomacy where possible.

In the early 1960s, China had border disputes with both Pakistan and India in the region of kashmir

Pakistan showed maturity and were willing to solve the issue through diplomacy which led to both sides agreeing new border lines. There hasn't been a single border dispute or any issue between the 2 countries since then.

India acted all high and mighty and were willing to use military means to solve the issue. They got spanked hard and lost a 38000 square KM of the aksai chin desert and they continue to cry to this day.

Pakistan chose diplomacy and won. India chose military solution and lost.
There seems to be this myth that India is a peaceful diplomatic country that always uses peaceful means.

I have no idea how that started. Gandhi? But Gandhi himself was killed by his own people. In fact some RSS Hindu Brahmin killed him and even wrote down a manifesto that he was glad he killed Gandhi and would do it again. This was because he considered Gandhi as a peace-lover weak on the Muslim issue and was selling out Hindus to them. In fact Modi's BJP is working on his image rehabilitation. Seeing how the RSS was born and what kind of people it has, you can see why Israel is so similar to them.

Look how India treats it own people. Do they use diplomacy? They always use some stick to whack each other with. They know speaking is worthless since everyone is selfish and disingenuous. Thats why punishment there is hitting them. Parents hit their kids all the time and its considered acceptable there.

I guess Indians want you to think they are peaceful because they arent good direct fighters so they need you to let down your guard so they can backstab you. Thats how they deal with the neighbours. They let flood in places like Nepal with their own people to outbreed the locals and then they use force to keep their order. And afterwards rewrite their history claiming they are part of India. If they went in directly, they would have to fight the Gurkas straight and that would end badly for them.

Big win for Mauritius. Though they need to kick the anglos out of diego garcia too.

Seems like the British idiot media seems to think they have handed the islands to China somehow. So Mauritius is now part of China? Or did they want to give the islands to China but put the wrong address down somehow?

And this is the kind of garbage YouTube is pushing. Guess who is racking in those American anti-China bucks.

EU executive to adopt tariffs on Chinese EVs after vote

  • Commission says it has necessary support for tariffs
  • Says will continue talks with Beijing
  • More states back tariffs than oppose, many abstentions
  • Case is Commission's highest profile trade clash with China
  • Beijing has threatened retaliation if tariffs go ahead
BRUSSELS, Oct 4 (Reuters) - The European Commission said on Friday it had received enough

from EU members to impose tariffs of up to 45% on Chinese electric vehicle imports in the bloc's highest profile trade case, but would continue to negotiate with Beijing.
The Commission, which oversees the bloc's trade policy, has proposed

on Chinese-built EVs for the next five years to counter what it sees as unfair Chinese subsidies after a year-long anti-subsidy investigation.
In a vote on Friday, 10 EU members backed tariffs and five voted against, with 12 abstentions, EU sources said.
It would have taken opposition from a qualified majority of 15 EU members, representing 65% of the EU population, to block the proposal. Reuters reported on Wednesday that the measure

with France, Italy and Poland planning to vote in favour.
The EU executive said it had obtained "the necessary support" to adopt the tariffs, although it would continue talks with Beijing to find an alternative solution.

I'm pretty happy Europe decided to launch a trade war with China, for a second I thought they were going to pussy out. The deindustrialization of Europe must continue, this is in the interest of everyone.

3 weeks’ jail for man who tried to give parking warden $10 bribe

Oct 04, 2024, 06:14 PM

SINGAPORE – Refusing to accept a ticket over a parking offence, a man offered a $10 bribe to a parking warden as he wanted to be let off the hook.

Mr Vikneswaran Kumaran, who was working for Certis Cisco Protection Services at the time, rejected Guo Chuankui’s offer and alerted the police.
Guo, a 46-year-old Chinese national, pleaded guilty to a graft charge and was sentenced to three weeks’ jail on Oct 4.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Lee Da Zhuan, who did not disclose details about the location, said Guo was working as a driver on April 4, 2023, when he illegally parked his company’s vehicle on a road with double yellow lines near a construction site before walking away.
Mr Vikneswaran, who arrived at the scene on a motorcycle, saw the vehicle and printed out a parking ticket notice. Guo returned soon after and saw him trying to place the ticket on the vehicle.
The DPP said: “When the two met, the accused pleaded with Viknes (Mr Vikneswaran)... telling him not to give the ticket.”

Guo asked Mr Vikneswaran how much the fine was, and the latter told him that it was $70. Guo then tried to ask for a smaller amount and even offered to treat the parking warden to some tea.

Mr Vikneswaran rejected the offers and realised by then that Guo would not accept the ticket. The parking warden decided to move off from the location and alert a duty executive about the incident.
DPP Lee said: “Before Viknes left, the accused opened his wallet, took a $10 note out and corruptly offered the gratification to Viknes, who rejected the money.
“The accused then placed the $10 on the top of the speedometer of Viknes’ motorcycle. Viknes called his superior for advice, who told Viknes to call the police.”
Mr Vikneswaran alerted the authorities and Guo was charged in court later that year.
Offenders convicted of graft can be jailed for up to five years and fined up to $100,000.

I can't say I am surprised. Automobiles are manufactured locally these days, tariffs on imports is pretty standard. It just means BYD has to manufacture locally inside EU. Japan still dominated US market even after local manufacturing, just that BYD and other Chinese companies should really focus on reliability and great tech to build it's reputation, don't go the affordable cheapo route.

VW literally told their workers on subject of plant closures that China profits were keeping German workers employed.
At end of the day they're between a rock and hard place, while China is between winning one way or winning another way.

It is all baloney and posing. Just check where the President of the Commission comes from.
If the Germans wanted it to be shot down, it would have.
