IMO, this war exercise showed NOTHING except diversion from A Bian own corruption scandals

If you take that attitude, perhaps one could say China only has military exercises to divert attention away from its domestic problems. :p

IMO, there is nothing to be proud of showing all this old American-made war fighting machines with "limited capability" to the PLA

And I don't think China should be proud of mobilising its limited number of modern equipment to hide the fact the majority of what it has is a lot worse. But I don't try and belittle the PLA by making a big thing about it.

I always wonder why Taiwanese prefer to give all this stupid billions of dollars to US for protection instead of choosing peaceful re-unification and then the money can be used for the benefits of Taiwanese people ???

Maybe they don't put a price on their freedoms.......

I don't think anybody would dare to attack Taiwan once it's unified with China!

No one other than China would want to attack it today. So what's your point?

Why USA is afraid of selling AB DDGs to Taiwan but not to Japan and S.Korea ?

Maybe because Japan and South Korea aren't likely to be taken over by China?

A pro-China Taiwanese president would greatly increase the chances of peaceful unification between Taiwan and China, which would basically let China get a hold of F-16s (albeit earlier Block), Various advanced cruisers, Patriot missiles systems, and what not. Even if it is downgraded compared to current US inventory frontline fighters, it would be a major "inconvenience" for the US if China was able to closely examine them.

In fact, something worth mentioning about this exercise is that Taiwan agreed not to fire the AMRAAM because of US pressure... it's a little paranoid, but understandable, I guess. (Even if the chances of China learning anything from an AIM-120 launch are minimal)

Edit : Added picture

Interesting picture from the psychological warfare exercise.

Basically it says (in simplified Chinese, so I assume it would be directed at PLA troopers) Put down your weapons > Take off your helmets > Raise your hands.

Surrender to the Republic of China
We will ensure your safety

Dude that poster is insulting, please get rid of it. The taiwan residents are starting to sound like the japanese of WW2. heck they said the same thing and what happened? no need to get into that .   :nono:
To my opinion, these war games might probably scare the chinese government. China is doing all it can to prevent such a war. the Chinese vs. taiwan would be the same as the second chinese civil war! Some time ago, china has given taiwan 2 pandas. taiwan rejected the offer as saying the gift was for political reasons. At this point, war can still be avoided.

Lol, that is nonsense. Remember China would do the invading, not Taiwan. Be careful lest someone make a comparison about Japan in WWII you don't like.

I have no idea how successful it would be, but it would be worth a go. After all I'm sure Beijing would try the same thing towards the ROC soldiers in a war.

Oh, please. They'd have to be utter cowards to be scared by something like this. China has military exercises, so why can't Taiwan?

China is doing all it can to prevent such a war.

So why is it pointing hundreds of missiles at Taiwan? I'm sure if Japan pointed hundreds of missiles at China, Beijing would call that "provocative", "beligerant", "setting it down the road to war", etc, etc.

Some time ago, china has given taiwan 2 pandas. taiwan rejected the offer as saying the gift was for political reasons. At this point, war can still be avoided.

Oh, well, I guess pandas makes up for being routinely threatened with invasion and being bombed back to the stone age! This is China's problem. It thinks cheap gestures will make up for seriously offensive and threatening actions, just like waving a wad of cash will make any country drop to its feet and start licking Hu Jintao's shoes. That's why it was so shocked when the EU didn't drop the arms embargo last year, despite Hu running around member states offering them all billions in trade agreements.

Yes, war can be avoided. And given that it would be China that pulled the trigger, the ball will always lie in China's court.

This could be the last hurrah of the pan-Greens.

After MYJ takes the presidency, I do believe trade, travel and cultural links will greatly increase. Perhaps in a decade or so, Taiwan will give China rights to build naval bases on the eastern coast. :D

No, I'm quite sure that after another four years of power the Pan-Blues would go back to their old tricks. Besides there's another two years to go at least.

Given that Ma has said China has to become a multi-party democracy before unification, I wouldn't hold your breath on the last point. :)

Exactly what proof do you have that china has missiles pointed at taiwan?! There are people saying the PRC has missiles pointed at the USA. IS THERE PROOF?! You here this nonsense every where, China has missiles pointed at so and so China has missiles pointed at so and so. WHERE IS THE PROOF? I can say taiwan has missiles pointed at a country, where is my proof? It was specifically discused in the PRC government that any sort of nuclear weaponary will not be used if war should accure. Since when did China bomb taiwan? If you hate china so much why you here?

:eek:ff please accept my apologies. I was a bit rough.

I thought it was a generally accepted fact. If you want to be like that, how can anyone prove China's military budget is higher than what Beijing says it is? Yet most sensible people here say it is. But how can they prove it? They don't have access to all of China's budgetary information. Even the Chinese Audit Commission doesn't.

How can you prove who you are? How can I prove who I am? How can anyone prove anything they say here? :p

If you hate china so much why you here?

OMG! There it comes again! The school-yard insult, similar to "YOU'RE GAY!" What's next? Calling me a "poopey-head"? Surely you're more mature than name-calling.....

I actually quite like China - I just don't think it should do certain very silly things. Your nationality or political leanings aren't relevant in whether you want the best for a place. :p

After seeing those pics of the M-60's doing that contact right while sending rounds down range.....too funny:roll:..........I cannot believe they don't have them big boys outfitted with reactive or passive armour. The Type-96,98 will go through them like hot butter. I have seen a Saudi or other gulf states M-60 get Iced during GW1 just outside of Kuwait city by a Iraqi T-62. It was one of the few colaliton tanks I saw that got its top popped off. It was kind of a funny deal. The T-62 was also killed by something also. but they sat there facing each other about 400 meters away from each other on this stretch of Highway. I did not see the fight but passed them on the way back out of the sandbox.

I do think however If a platoon of M-60's was let loose on a amph landing ship it would be a quick ending for that ship. The M-60A3 may have crap for armour but those puppies can hit targets for sure and the Thermals that were installed on the 60's were first rate. The rate of fire is much faster than a Abrams because the rounds are lighter and you can in some cases vacuum load them so the round just gets sucked right in....pretty cool if you are good enough to vacuum load them...cheers ute
