Yes 220 kg for Harpoon vs 125 for NSM but NSM more modern definitely better vs ECM and get a special warhead with titanium also more long range 185+ km vs 120.


But possible Navy have Harpoon and launchers stored eventually can be used, main problem lifetime.

Launched from a Skjold the best FAC capable 60 kn maybe a little more ! the more stealth ships with Visby, Zumwalt but they are the more small, dangerous in the fjord.

dtulsa, I got an impression the USN wanted to fully integrate AShMs (into the combat-system, not just shoot them the way you portrayed it), which I base on this:

I think your right just not a priority for this deployment I feel this is the long awaited fly of for the new missile for the lcs and possibly future navy replacement of the current harpoon missile

More seriously :) obviously with last tests on a LCS USN go for NSM but with FY 2016 budget problems Harpoon is a more reasonnable price solution the problem is many retired from Perry, 5 first Tico and eventualy Spruance but since about 10 years and they are operationnals now, no sure.

That's true just seems that he is tilting towards the nsm either way I will be happy and my favourite is the 8 inch gun cruisers why don't we build some of them to modern standards lots of bells and whistles there. 2.As for the German frigs that's a lot of ship for such a light armament seems like they used the lcs concept in much larger way or as they say over here everything"s bigger in Texas good looking ships though. 3.I wonder if they plan on firing the harpoon's and the nsm or are they just along for the ride just to see how the ship's and systems react etc.

And I have already posted that Boeing is working on a new version of harpoon with a lighter warhead of 300 pound's and new guidance systems etc. That's my guess that's what their talking about. Also has increased range.

Not to change the subject why aren't naval guns mentioned for ship to ship engagement anymore seems as though with all the guided munitions and extended ranges available that would be a viable alternative to guided missiles just a random thought maybe even a guided extended range version for the 57mm wouldn't that be a viable alternative
