Re: JH-7/JH-7A Thread

My intel of JH-7/A:

>2 Regiments serving for the PLAAF:

2 Regiments in the PLAAF are the JH-7A consisting of 40 units, one regiment of 20 units is serving the 28th division in Hangzhou.

>4 Regiments serving for the PLANAF:

2 Regiments from the 4 reigments serving for the PLANAF are the standard JH-7 with upgraded avionics consisting of 50-55 units. Other 2 regiments are the JH-7A consisting of 50-55 units.

2 regiments of JH-7 serving the PLANAF are both in the East Sea Fleet serving in the 6th Division, 16th and 17th Regiments in Shanghai and Yiwu.

1 regiment of JH-7 serving the PLANAF South Sea Fleet, in 9th Division, 27th Regiment in Ledong.

Hope this is good information coming from a newbie :china:

These are the ones belonging to the PLAAF 5th and 28th Division. They number about 20 planes each.

There are two regiments of JH-7, now both upgraded to JH-7A avionics standard, in the 16th Division.

The regiment on the 9th Division are JH-7A.

The latest is the regiment of the PLANAF 5th Division. Apparently this converted right about the same time as the PLAAF 5th Division.

Unlike PLAAF bomber regiment, the number of planes per PLANAF bomber regiment seems to be around 24.

So its 20 + 20 + 24 + 24 + 24 +24.

wasnt Kh-31 was developed for tat purpose?
besides tat, from the weapon suite i think JH-7A could carry well beyond 7,500kg of payload.

then wats the point of reverse engineer Kh-31?

Because Kh-31 is of mach 4+ speeds. That gives it surpassing ability of avoiding enemy air defence. A long ranged, sub-sonic missile and a large, supersonic, shorter ranged missile complement each other. It has been discussed before on other threads also.

I think China learned a lot about ramjets. If you read tphuang's blog, I think he mentioned that in 2008 we might be seeing China "unveiling" supersonic anti-ship missiles.

Wasn't there suppose to be an anti-air version of the Kh-31 that was suppose to be an AWACS killer? If so then put that one on a Flanker, get in, shoot down AWACS, and get out quickly.

no, why would they reverse engineer sunburn? It's not even better than YJ-83. No, it's a ramjet missile along the line of Onyx.
