2 units worth of jh7 and 9 units of jh7a were made. Probably some more for tactics development and training. Possibly 270 at their heyday.
But 2 jh7 units maybe been retired. So possibly some 220 are left now. No one knows for sure though.

I dont see why JH-7A need to be retired any time soon. probably use them until they are 30+ years old.
Development of JH7 started in 1973. First JH7 flight was in 1988, introduction was 1992. Thus the first batch of JH7 is already 32 years old and it is to be expected that they are being phased out of active services or retired.

The upgraded JH7A was introduced in 2004, the first batch of JH7A is 20 years old, and the last batch was built in 2017 which is 7 years ago. If their airframe live span is 30 years, then they should be retired starting from 2034. However, with J16 being introduced in large numbers, I think JH7A will be moved to second line of defense starting around 5 years from now.

SImilar strike jets of JH7/7A are Panavia Tornado, Sepecat Jaguar, MIG-27 and SU-24. Many of them have been retired or near retire.

Hi,
how many JH7s are active, and how many been replaced
anyone have info about the number of JH7
thank you

In fact there are already units, which replaced them with J-16, namely the 83rd AB & 15th AB.
Still active per my understanding are the 126th AB, the 110th AB, the 31st AB and two units transferred from the PLAN NA.

Are you saying that they retired some jh7a as well? And that there may be just 5 jh7a units active in total, as we speak?

Yes, at least to my understanding
How many aircraft are there per JH-7A unit Deino? Also if they all get replaced by J-16 and also Su-30 will probably get replaced by J-16 too, this means at this rate J-16 production will continue for like until 2030 right? Isn't that a bit late for a 4.5 gen?
