Here is the background of 27th Regiment of the 9th air division of Chinese navy air force station in Ledong. I thought there is another airfield in Linshui that housed J11 B regiment . With the new airfield in Spratly open they need at least another 3 regiment of J 11B . No wonder the line is reopen again
Institutional media in the Chinese military, such as
and
newspaper, launched a large-scale communication campaign yesterday on an air force regiment, equipped with the
JH-7A fighter
- bomber fleet belonging to the fleet from South.
Numerous photos, taken visibly during a photex (photo exercise), as well as a televised report and a press article, have been published and distributed on all the platforms.
Although not mentioned in any of the publications, this is the 27th Regiment of the 9th Air Division of the Chinese Navy.
The 24-member JH-7A fighter bombers are based in Ledong (东 东), a small autonomous county located southwest of Hainan Island and administered by the "Li" (黎族) ethnic minority.
This 27th Regiment Air Force Base borders the South China Sea and is less than 400 km from Woody Island (Paracels) and less than 1,100 km from Fiery Cross Island (Spratleys). This allows the aircraft to reach any point in the heavily contested area in less than an hour.

The location of Ledong in relation to the main Chinese installations in the South China Sea.
The 9th Air Division of the Chinese Navy was formed in August 1968. It is composed of 4 regiments including the 27th Regiment, which was the first entity of the Chinese army to equip itself with
JH-7 / JH-7A. The pilots' transformation and the handling of the aircraft lasted a total of 8 months.
The other three regiments include the 25th regiment based at Woody Island and equipped with
J-11BH and
J-11BSH combat aircraft , the 26th regiment in Sanya with transport planes and helicopters, as well as a newly created regiment (?) With the ASW
GX-6 aircraft and the
KJ-500H AWACS .
It should be noted that we can see the distribution of the JH-7A roles of the 27th regiment. Some of the aircraft are assigned to SEAD missions - some equipped with electronic jammers and others equipped with 4
YJ-91 anti-radiation missiles - while the majority targets surface targets, at the sea.
As for the exact reason for this communication campaign, it seems to be related to the current situation in the South China Sea.
One also learns from the article of the newspaper PLA Daily that in March, several JH-7A of this same regiment had to respond to the "provocation" of the warships and the foreign planes. According to the Chinese army's communication habit, Chinese fighter-bombers may have taken the lead in this new hang-up in the South China Sea, prompting institutional media to communicate about this entity.
