Re: JH-7/JH-7A Thread

I checked my hardrive since I thought I knew this design .... this one (saved in February 2010) shares some similarities at least !

... and not a too ugly one !

Isn't top intakes not good for high AoA maneuvers? Maybe this is designed for fast strike in mind.

Just wonder if they could also make this into a medium-large manned stealth bomber, that can operate both in the high subsonic as well as super-cruising, with a Su-34 like cockpit layout.

Re: JH-7/JH-7A Thread

I'm gonna go on a limb and say propose that the flying wing behind this.mystery supersonic bomber is not sharp sword but the flying wing HX. We all knew there were two competing (or perhaps now complimentary) proposals for HX, perhaps they're showing both at this convention? (But thatmwouldmbe a remarkably public display for such an important project)

Also the flying wing model, has some discrepancies from the sharp sword ucav, namely its front landing gear door, which is much larger than them real thing. It could obviously be a mistake on the model makers part, but if we do get more pictures, there may be a chance that the flying wing is not sharp sword but HX

In other news, if this bomber is actually built, it would be the ultimate wish fulfilment. I remember discussing with in another thread about how the PLA should optimally have some supersonic stealthy bombers for both strike and more importantly, maritime strike roles, with the range, persistence, speed, stealth and payload to hit a CVBG in between the first and second island chain with YJ-12s. Depending on how big this thing is meant to be, if it is built it may very well fulfill that purpose.

If you look at the nose of the model, you can actually see one side of a B-1/Su-34 style cockpit.

Tsimshian is definitely a bomber/striker, and probably a big one if we derive from the cockpits potential minimum size.

To mounted intakes are good for stealth but bad for hard manoeuvring as you said, which is why I'm quite pleased this model seems intended for supersonic speeds as well as all aspect stealth.

Some artists are really quick ....:p

By the way can anyone repost that strange image from SAC ??? I can't find it anymore .... :(

This?

J-X.jpg

It's interesting, for the last few years many UAV models from xianglong to pterodactyl to sharp sword, and even SAC's J-31, all first appeared as model form. I was wondering if they would up the ante a little for their next teaser and I suppose time will tell if this new bomber is anything substantial.
Anyone want to guess this thing's size? From the cockpit I think a Tu-22M3 size is realistic.

On the other hand, the Tu-22M3 has a length of 42.4 meters and the B-1B has a lenght of 44.5 meters.

Given that stealthy aircraft tend to be heavier compared to non LO aircraft of similar length, this supersonic bomber could be closer in MTOW to the B-1B (even if payload might be closer to the Tu-22M3).

Actually, looking at the model in the background, it appears to have a single wheel for each main gear leg, which would be surely unusual if it would be the H-X, a big, heavy flying wing (also slightly odd about this supersonic stealth striker model, it also has one wheel per each main gear leg- unless it's done on purpose on the model). In addition, the nose of it does not seem to suggest a cockpit but an intake, it looks very similar to Lijian's nose imo.

It just hit me, if Lijian has an afterburner which would make one think it's high subsonic or even supersonic (you never know), and now we see this LRSS model showed together with Lijian, perhaps among other things LRSS may act as a controller for several of these Lijians. There are many possibilities, this could be one of them.

Either way, if this LRSS proves to be real, it will be a rather spectacular development!

Re: JH-7/JH-7A Thread

So will it have a longer/larger bottom weapon bay than the J-20?

And could J-20s have the range to escort such bombers on a mission, or is it designed to operate alone?
