Re: Jh-7 thread

the originally PLAAF requirement called out almost exactly as the FB-111 . tactical strike. to stop soviet tanks formations.
two side by side seats to facilitate night attacks.

also I think chinese did get a downed FB-111's cockpit in vietnam to take a look at.

but PLAAF version didn't go.

PLAN's missile striker did get a green light. which is the tandem seat version you see today.

also interesting enough, the Spey mk202 engine whcih is on JH-7, was actually a good standin for TF-30. and is in similar class.

I think the geometry swing wing proves too complicated and is a maintenance nightmare for PLAAF that time.. Plus, its not an easy plane to fly.........

Naval aviation division conducts night hedgehopping training to attack sea targets

Several home-made fighter-bombers took off from an airport south of the Yangtze River at one night in mid April, 2012 and the hedgehopping training of attacking sea targets at night conducted by a naval aviation division of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) was unveiled.

Shortly after several ten minutes, all the warplanes responsible for the hedgehopping assault task took off and headed for the targets from different directions. Several minutes later, good news came: “The targets are destroyed!”

According to the briefing, during the hedgehopping training at night to attack sea targets, the division adopted various monitoring methods including flight data interpretation and video playback to evaluate the pilots’ training results for each flight. An additional number of flights for training would be requested for the pilots who failed to meet the training requirements. As for the common problems of the flying skills, the backbone forces of the division are organized to overcome the problems. By so doing, the hedgehopping assault capability at night for the whole division is enhanced.

With the safe landing of the last warplane at 22:49, the hedgehopping training of attacking sea targets at night was wrapped up successfully.

A drill was held in late April, 2012 at an airport in northwest China and the results of the drill demonstrated that the use of a new fire-control radar anti-interference system developed by a research institute of the Equipment Research Academy of the Air Force of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) had multiplied the effectiveness of the fighter's anti-interference capability, with its combat capability significantly enhanced in complex electromagnetic environment.

According to the briefing, this achievement has not only been applied to many fighters of the aviation force of the PLA Air Force, but also promoted to the aviation force of the PLA Navy. The research institute has been closely focusing on the combat requirements to push forward the innovation of scientific research. So far, the institute has established a military-civilian used aviation life-saving system integrating peacetime application with wartime application. The system is applicable from the mountain to the jungle, from the coast to the plateau and from individual use to systematic deployment. The institute has also set up a search and rescue equipment system which integrates functions of navigation, communication, search and rescue, positioning and rescue. The two systems have effectively improved the aviation forces' capabilities to carry out diversified military tasks under complicated conditions.

During 2011 alone, 14 achievements of the institute won the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award and the Military Scientific and Technological Progress Award, which have systematically and organically elevated the support capabilities of the aviation equipment systems. The Nanchang Q-5 designer (he's at the left at my avatar) studied a version with swing wings and a Spey engined. The wing mechanism was based on MiG-27 one. But they decided not proceed with it by complexity and possible maintenance problems.

A regiment under the aviation force of the air force of the Nanjing Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) organized its troops to conduct daytime flight training under complicated meteorological conditions. The regiment has kept increasing the training intensity under low-altitude and marginal weather conditions and effectively enhanced the mission-performing capabilities of troops under complicated meteorological circumstances.
