Sabino Vaca Narvaja, Argentina’s ambassador to China, held a meeting with Argentine Defence Minister Jorge Taiana in Buenos Aires recently to discuss plans to cooperate with Beijing on defence, according to a Weibo post by the country’s embassy on Tuesday.

The plan could see Argentina procure JF-17 aircraft along with 8x8 armoured vehicles made by China North Industries Corporation (Norinco) to “meet the needs of the Argentine military to maintain unity and stability”, the embassy said.

They cried wolf so many times that it is hard to get excited about it.

will be an interesting test case of China's power. You know Washington is deeply against this, but China is the largest trade partner for all the major South American countries. It's time for China to cooperate more with them in security aspect.

Two new and most interesting images … first a new underside shot of a JF-17C and IMO even more interesting, a similar underside shot of a regular JF-17 carrying a Ra‘ad ALCM.

I don't think it's just a matter of Chinese power -- it's more a case of whether Argentina has the money to fund a purchase.

If they don't have the money, China is not going to outright gift them aircraft, even if they may be willing to offer friendly pricing.

Argentina is running at 100% inflation. Yes you read that right, 100%!

I very much doubt Argentine's financials are sufficient to proceed with this purchase unless China offers them for basically free (loans with ultra low interests rates and 30-year long..) or a resources for planes swap.

I know there has been a lot of noise about Argentine moving forward with this purchase, but I am very sceptical given all these financial difficulties they have

Is this confirmed?

Haven't seen an official announcement. That is an Indian newspaper. They say they got the information from a Pakistani journalist.

A defense journalist from Pakistan who wished to remain anonymous told EurAsian Times that about 12 fighters were indeed inducted into service with the 16 Squadron in a very small-scale ceremony
