JF-17/FC-1 Fighter Aircraft thread

JF-17 Thunder forms the backbone of Pakistan Air Force combat fleet. So it's only natural that Thunders will have AESA, HMD/HOBS, IRST and other Gen-4+ capability. It's an aircraft PAF has in its grasp and will mould it to suits it's fighting requirements. An aircraft that cannot be sanctioned by Western countries. So yes, Pakistan Air Force is gonna go full throttle on Thunders.

You know what's the one thing that most people really don't get about Pakistanis. It's that we really don't give a hoot about what others think about Thunders, Al-Khalids and/or etc. These combat machines are designed specifically to meet Pakistan's military, our fighting strategy and our environment. So you can call it "cheap", "affordable" or anything else, but at best you'll get a smile from us. At worst, it will just be shrugged off.

Each country has its own unique environment, budgetary limitations and adversary capability to counter. Based on that, Thunder is rightly being pursued by Pakistan Air Force to provide it with the necessary capability for all eventualities. Including and not to ever be forgotten by any Pakistani (unless he's totally lost his marbles), "Western Sanctions." So if tomorrow (God forbid) there is a war, and those F-16s are suddenly in need for spare parts, coz you know "automatic sanctions" would be imposed by America. Then we wouldn't have a scenario where we are handicapped coz "only F-16s had that capability!!"

Hi,

The "mindset" is based on the generic approach that whatever the West has in terms of capability, we must have. It's in comparison to what the Middle Eastern Sheikhdoms have done, buying up hundreds of billions worth Western combat aircraft. And/or the Indian mindset, where they have to have the same capability, with a "Made in India" sticker on hardware thats essentially a combination of several countries contributing to the finished porduct. In process flushing down billions of dollars.

So when I say that Pakistanis don't give two hoots about what others think of Thunders, Al-Khalids MBTs or Zulfiqar Class frigates. It is to say that Pakistan Military knows all too well, it's budgetary limitations, it's combat effectiveness and requirements according their war strategy. So these platforms are as good as they would be, conforming with what our limitations and requirements are.

Also, sarcasm doesn't really work unless you follow it up with a valid argument.

Hi,

If there are budgetary limitations---then make peace with the enemy---swallow the pride and move ahead with life---.

Either you can fight a war---or cry over budgetary restraints---.

Pakistanis should remember----the day their Prophet Muhammad pbuh died---there was no oil to burn the lamp in the house---but there were 8 swords hanging on the walls of his room.

Son---just remember one thing in life----the enemy gets to vote as well----.

So---stop hiding behind the curtain of protectionism.

Every country has budget limitations. It's not necessarily that a military with bigger budget always win war against lean and nimble opponent, especially when those budget are not spent that wisely.

But it's a valid point that Pakistan needs to pick up its economy. India will become 5th largest economy very soon. Not really something particularly impressive to boast about given their population, but they may get emboldened, as they have been throughout their post-1947 history, again and again.
And what if they become the 4th largest economy, then the 3rd largest one? It may come slow and take them 20 or more years, but Pakistan really needs to take it as a strategic challenge.
