the word was that Egypt was originally going to place large order on JF-17 but then Arab spring happened and not sure if that order will ever happen. It does make sense though since they have K-8s and have purchased a lot of Chinese aircraft in the past.

...having said all of that, I forgot that Egypt has something of over 100 Mig-21s still in service. They have talked to the Russians about the Mig-35 to replace those. Egypt does have a long standing history with Russia too for large numbers of legacy aircraft.those.

I suppose if there was any place JF-17s could fit into Egypt, that would be the place...or perhaps to replace the 60 or so J-7s they still have in service being uses, as I understand it, for initial jet training purposes..

Time will tell.

Just my two cents in relation to the post above.....

Egypt's dependence on Saudi and allied Arabs Money for buying Russian jets, seen in relation to Russia involvement in Syria against Saudi and allied Arabs, will work against the russian option.

This might give JF17 a healthy chance.....

Well, given how Egypt just bought the two Vladivostok/Mistral class LPDs that were originally built for Russia, and how it has been announced that Egypt will outfit those two vessels with the navalized Ka-52 helicopters from Russia to the tune of about $1 billion dollars...I think those financial ties to Russia seem to still be in pretty good shape.

The Ka-52K deck-based naval variant of the Alligator is ideal for transport on board the Mistral amphibious assault ships, also known as helicopter carriers. France canceled their plans to sell the ships to Russia following Moscow lending political and material support for armed separatists in eastern Ukraine.

Who cares about Egypt who cares about exports does that define the success the JF-17 , clear and simple no

What defines this unit is it's successful induction and service PAF, which it has done by flying colours

Block I done block II going and block III getting ready

That defines success

A export order has been secured in sure course we will know

I remember when people used to say this will never fly, then it will never get inducted, then it will ever reach maturity and on and on

Where are they now?

Great to see a dual seater it will fly next year and this project is going from strength to strength

A testimony to Pakistan and China friendship

I agree, Asif, the JF-17 is a great success.

Will Egypt get it? I do not know. It is possible because of the Mig-21sand J-7s that still need to be replaced. it is also possible Egypt will use either the Russians or more French or US aircraft.

Time will tell on that.

But there is no doubt that the JF-17 is a great success based on its excellent introduction to, and history in Pakistan.
