Re: New JF-17/FC-1 thread

In the age of missiles, the fighter jock that gets the gun kill gets the bragging rights. Its the hardest to perform and you put yourself at greater risk.

The point remains that all this boasting about F-22 racking up one-sided kill ratios is not terribly convincing since anyone can figure out that it's not possible for an F-22 to shoot down more than 8 aircraft / drones at a time.

So one possible tactic is to send up a bunch of J-7 drones and then follow up with J-10's.

Yes because US radar can't see the difference between a J-7 and a J-10. :coffee:
You are reaching...

An another question, do you know where to send those drone J-7 at? The E-3 can see two large sets of radar your J-10 and J-7 and vector F-22 around the J-7 to attack your J-10.

Another thing, good luck defending your AWACS from the F-22. Once they are gone, there goes your situational awareness.

One more thing, stealth kills are still possible using guns only.

We are off topic, if you want to discuss the F-22 follow the link on the last page.

Actually, radar could quite easely have trouble telling, say, a j7 from j10, *at a certain distance*. So, while detection of a target can be made at, say, 500 km away, positive identification would not happen till 100, 200 km or whatever other value. One could easely put radar signal enhancers on planes with exact purpose of making them have as similar RCS as possible. To combat that, radar has to have great resolution, to make up synthetic images of the target. Longer wave radars, like those on an AWACS, are bad for that role. While shorter wave radars are better, they can still use their high resolution modes at shorter range than their max radar range.

Stealth kills are possible from slightly longer ranges than gun range, IR missiles should have no problem locking on from several kms away, more so from the rear. Of course, thats a moot point, as one would still be dead before reaching such ranges.

Don't forget the powerful ESM suites onboard the F-22 and the E-3. Each radar type has it's own unique signature; one can tell the difference between different types of aircraft from their emission signatures. That includes everything from the radar, to datalinks, radios, etc. The E-3 is particularly capable of distinguishing between different emission signatures; I know the E-3 is capable of telling the difference between a Toyota Corolla and a Honda Civic, from their electronic emission signatures.

Also, don't forget the powerful force amplification of the F-22; in one exercise, once the F-22's ran out of missiles, they acted as AEW platforms and directed non-stealthy aircraft into position to kill other enemy aircraft.

Oh dear god, another measuring contest! Sheesh. Westerners love to say Chinese love to save face. The egotism oozing from the above posts just make me sick.

LOL, "saving face" is the lateral translation from Chinese slang, in west it is called "peer pressure" in tradition.

It's a human nature every where and seems Chinese calling gains up hand now.

Now as its been hinted by some members, back to the JF-17 discussion and leave the J-7 drones, J-10s, F-22s and other inrelevences out!

Exspecially those who were just about to turn this depate to even more dreadfull "china vs. western" pissing context...feel lucky that I'm in a good mood. But any continuation of those oftopic issues after this post means a officical warning.

The engines are coming:

Russian President Vladimir Putin has recently signed the permission for the re-export of Russian engines RD-93 to Pakistan. RD-93 are installed on Chinese fighter jets JF-17 (also known as FC-1). Islamabad signed a contract with Beijing for 150 such jets. In total, China plans to buy around 1,000 RD-93 engines, worth $6-7 billion, from Russia.

Hmmm, 1,000. I wonder if China really is expecting purchases like that or if they're planning to buy a significant number for themselves.

Or the Pakistanis are feeling paranoid and insist on a large stockpile for spares/future production.
