Jeff, you are picking a wrong enemy. People, like you, are pushing China to the corner. What do you expect? Please find a way to make Chinese to eat potatos. China is not enemy of the United States. If you look China as an enemy, China will be your enemy.

If you've seen his site, you'd probably guessed what political stance he takes, and perfectly logical why he portrait China is the enemy.

Besides that, China's emergence will, sooner or later, challenge US dominance in the region, a natural process in power-play.

This is common to every countries in the world, you don't think most Chinese think America is a threat? I really don't see how a defence analysis on your potential enemy is such a big problem. And I really don't think Jeff's article will push China "to the corner", China is not NK, it's self-esteem is not that low. China will do what ever in it's national economical interest, if it become a enemy of US (I don't think China is) will not because of some people's opinions, certainly not a article written by some civilians.

my 2 cents

I have no quarell with the people of China...never have. Have been to the far east on numerous occassions.

But with a one party system politically and an economic model thata is going great guns, there is the potential for conflict. I am just tracking the buildup on both sides and informing people who will listen of what I see.

My book is a fictional tale and it pits fundamentally free peoples against those caught up in totalitarian regimns...the two competing, underlying value systems...but purely in a fictional story. That's what the book is about.

The Rising Sea Dragon Site to which this thread references is about the fact of the Chinese rise in naval power...there is no denying that and I attempt on that site to make it as apolitical as possible.

Hope that helps.

"Outside of naval operations, but potentially impacting them should a carrier derivitive be developed, the PLAAF rolled out its first fifth generation stealth fighter prototype, the J-20, for taxi tests at the end of the year (2010). The aircraft appears to combine the characteristsics of the front end of the United States F-22 Raptor (which is the only fifth generation stealth fighter actually in full production with over 100 having been produced), with the tail end portion of the prototype T-50 (two of which jave been produced) being built by Russia and India."

, the 052B is listed as having "48 MR VLS AAW". IMO arm launcher doesn't really qualify as VLS. The weapon list for 051 Luda is a compilation of all the weapon systems found on various versions of the ship, listing them under the ship entry is a bit misleading as no single ship of that class carry everything. Tonnage on the ships (both US and China) might need a revision, or given a range of estimates.

For the record, Jeff's novel is still 1,000,000,000 times better than the rubbish that Tom Clancy's ghost writer barfed out of his typewriter (The Bear and the Dragon).

Always good to see professional level contribution from SDF members. And it's always good to see more from Jeff Head one of SDF's longtime VIPs. You know Jeff, some of my friends and I were writing down our predictions for the state of the world in 100 years, and I have to say that your book's depiction of space warfare helped develop my ideas on future weapons development.

I hope you will not be on the wrong side of the history.

At least for the last 30 years, the rise of China has made many of your, rather than predictions, judgments gone to the sinks.

Your value has misled American people gone to the war and did not make Iraqi people better off; the superpower strength could not find Bin Laden and loosing the war in Afghanistan; The down fell of Berlin Wall led Soviet Union to be a mad house where brothers are killing each other. The success of China has led so many people to all freedoms in a very short period time that never happened in human history. The Promised Land Could also be in China. I don't, whatever you think you are, believe, told by the so-called The God's Messengers, the promised land only in desert of Israel.

I'm not going to argue with you on such assertions as the Iraqi people not being better off. Millions of purple fingers spoke for themselves to that issue. They are much better off without Sadam Hussein...no doubt about that...and soon we will withdraw most of our forces.

China is rising. My hope is that her people will look to, seek, and ultimately get a more republican form of government...that's all. It would be the best thing all around.

In the mean time, my own opinion in that regard aside, I am simply tracking the facts of their naval buildup. It is really quite phenominal.
