Excellent video of the JS Izumo, DDH-183 launch from last August.

In addition, I received a pic from Japan this last weekend that supposedly shows the Izumo out on trials.

SamuraiBlue, has she reached a point where she has gone to sea for builders trials?

The forward Phalanx CIWS and SeaRaAM are both there...and there would be another of each on the stern sponsons. Looks good, but she was launched 6 months ago and I am not sure she would be ready for this yet.

Wow one of the best looking flat tops I have seen very sleek and very modern!

Can't wait to we her sailing with her sister ship and the Hyuga Class plenty of open deck action to look forward too from the JMSDF

Yes she is.

The JMSDF now has four of these dedicated CVH vessels, and will soon have four.

After that, there are still rumors of them building the 26DDH carriers that are specifically designed for fixed wing aircraft, perhaps even with a ski-ramp...though these Izumo class could operate them too if they wanted.

That's pohotoshopped picture but indeed, that's how she will look as that's the real hull with added sensors. We'll probably see Izumo starting trials in the late summer.

Here's how she looked about a week ago

And here's a great comparision between Izumo and Hyuga class as they are being fitted-out in the same place (Hyuga at IHI Yokohama which is now Japan Marine United from last year)

And yes - Japanese vessels always had that 'little something' that when you looked at them you knew they are Japanese.

Btw do we have any pics of DDH-184 media reported it was laid start of this year

Like DDH-183 very little is leaked from Japan regarding these ships we seem to know the status of Chinese warships more than we do with Japan

Btw that ships looks huge certainly fully loaded will near 40,000 tons probably

Yup that is a photoshop if you can even call it that.
It's basically a CGI of a vision that maybe.

To my understanding sea trial only starts after she is delivered to JMSDF in which TRDI with JMSDF places into various real life training situations to see she lives ups to standards.

As for fixed wing carriers it may become a possibility to counter the potential threat being developed within PRC's ship yards.
Japan does not see the present Liaoning as a threat with it's present limited capabilities but we are looking ahead and if PRC actually develops a full fledged fixed wing carrier group then Japan will counter it with a one of her own.

I reckon JMSDF can get 6 x F35B on each Hyuga Class and 12 x F35B on each Izumo Class with V22 Ospreys from the Osumi Class

So they have in theory the ability to have 36 x F35B from flat deck operations

Off course they have not got any F35B yet that's why I state in theory

If they go for a even larger 26DDH then we are looking at 24 x F35B from each flat top

So I would say
6 x F35B from 22DDH
12 x F35B from 24DDH
24 x F35B from 26DDH

Hell JMSDF will have a capability that could match the Royal Navy or even more

In peace time each Queen Elizabeth Carrier will have 12 x F35B and could carry 36 x F35B each to total 72 aircraft

It's a real Izumo, Samurai. That's how this vessel will look once it will move towards the end of sea trials. I'm quiet sure that the photo was taken during launching ceremony at the time when she was being towed out of the dock. Sensor, antennas and equipement is probably cut&pasted in accordance with Sekai no Kansen renders.

No info there yet about this vessel. It looks like the construction haven't started yet. Maybe some redesign works happening there? Maybe the new Special Secrecy Law playing some role here? We'll have to wait for something a little longer anyway.

Some additional info from JMSDF: both remaining Akizuki class DD's will be commisioned next week with the ensign raised on Suzutsuki on March 12th and on 13th aboard Fuyuzuki. With this all four vessels completed we'll have to wait for, so called for now, 2 next 25DD's. It seemed like they're going to be a cheap Akizuki's but fresh reports tell that it will have only 16 VLS but they'll move them to the side and leave the space for additional 16 in the future if they decide to add it. Radar equipement will probably stay the same with additional new periscope search radar.

Rutim are you Japanese I have a few questions

How far ahead is the defence budget projected and how many units as of now are included for funding for the Soryu Class SSK?

Also how many Akizuki Class are currently funded are they going to stop at 4 units

Plus there is two more AEGIS DDG planned are they funded

Basically I want to know which vessals are actually funded within the budget and which are planned

All four Akizuki destroyers have been built and launched. The last two will commission this year. There are no plans to build more Akizukis, however a follow-on class has been designed and proposed and one of them is included in the current defense plan.

The Japanese new five-year Mid-Term Defense Program was set out on December 13, 2013, and approved on December 17, 2013 I believe.

It calls for all of the following:

- 17 new Osprey tiltrotor aircraft
- 03 Global Hawk surveillanceaircraft
- 28 F-35A Lightning fighters (with an additional 14 recommended for the next plan)
- 04 four new AEW&C aircraft
- 03 new air to air-refueling aircraft
- 05 new Soryu class diesel electric submarines
- 02 new Atago class AEGIS destroyers
- 04 new P-1 maritime surveillance aircraft
- 01 new 5,000 ton destroyer class, 25DDH
- 01 new 3,000 ton escort vessel
- 03 new 690 ton minesweepers
- 01 new submarine rescue vessel
- 01 new modified Hibiki class Surveillance Ship

I believe we will see all of this occur in the next five years in terms of funding and in terms of construction/procurement starting in each of these areas.
