２０１８年度の概算要求に数億円の調達費を計上し、量産体制に入る。国産の空対艦ミサイルとしては初の超音速で、迎撃されにくいのが特長だ。東シナ海などで強引な活動が目立つ中国海軍をけん制する狙いがある。

　導入済みの国産の空対艦ミサイルには、音速に近い「８０式」と「９３式」があるが、新型は飛行速度が９３式の約３倍のマッハ３程度と、飛躍的に速くなる。速度の面では、海外の同種の最新鋭ミサイルと肩を並べる。

　目標に命中するまでの時間が大幅に短くなるうえ、レーダーに捉えられにくい海面近くを低空飛行することもできるため、敵の艦船はミサイルを迎撃しにくい。射程も９３式（百数十キロ・メートル）より長くなるという。

It seems like XASM3 hits the targets at least. Ex-Shirane went out from Maizuru on July 11th like this...

With the money request for the next fiscal year of the 'new air-to-surface missile' that Yomiuri wrote about I think that this live fire test was the last step in acceptance process.

Japan planning to equip F-2 fighters with supersonic air-to-ship missile, says report

Tokyo plans to start equipping Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) F-2 fighter aircraft with a new supersonic air-to-ship missile from the next fiscal year, according to a 19 July report by The Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper.

The paper quoted unnamed sources as saying that the Japanese government will allocate several hundred million yen in a budgetary request for fiscal year 2018/19 to mass produce the missile, which is still under development.

According to the media report, the new missile will travel significantly faster than domestically built radar-guided Type 80 (ASM-1) and Type 93 (ASM-2) anti-ship missiles, thus making it more difficult for enemy ships to intercept it.
