My question is which ship they are going to transport the AAVs to the frontline how are they going to launch it from the ship once there?

Can they jump off say the deck of the Hyuga or Osumi?

That is a good question... does this herald new LPDs or LHDs? They are well within the abilities of Japan's shipbuilding industry.

Jump off the deck is not safe.
I suggest parking the AAV on the deck. once the ship arrive at the launch point, you scuttle the ship since its job is done. when the ship has settled enough, you can just drive the AAV off the deck. the crew of the ship can also swim to beach as additional infantry.
Osumi have a well deck with stern ramp. that should make scuttling faster, just make sure you blow a hole in the bow of the ship as well so the ship settle evenly.
This is a complex operation, so through training is necessary. Japan needs a least a dozen Hyuga to be expended in training exercises to ensure the crews are properly trained in this landing method.

Well with in. the Ise, Hyuga or Osumi have the size and flat top for a LHD and Osumi has the well deck. in the future I can easily see derivatives of the Ise or Hyuga taking a full LHD mission if the JMSDF feels the need and has the backing

Just use a Ro-Ro ship and place the ramp at water level and drive the LVTP-7 into the water. No jumping off decks, no sinking vessels. In a pinch you can purchase a couple off used ones for $30million. The only draw back is that they are slow - 14 knots+/-

Ro-Ro's are good but unprotected. and lack alot of the needs. The best option is way the Japanese are doing there LST the Osumi class has a well deck. They can partially flood it drop the hatch and drive into the sea.

It's fairly popular used across the world and likely to keep in service till the 2040's. the Japanese Ground and Maritime Self Defence force is looking to buy 52. a USMC MEU normally has 15 AAV's along with 7-16 LAV's and 4 M1A1 SEP. The Japanese numbers may seem large therefore but numerically it about the same as Taiwan (54) and less then Korea ( 164). the most likely unit for them being the Western Army Infantry Regiment with 680 members meaning that the whole unit would only need about 33 vehicle there seems the possibility of a second maritime unit at a later date it's likely some of these are being order for spare parts.
These AAVs could easily be transported within and launched the

They would not be embarked on either the Hyuga or the Ixumo class. Those other Japanese flat tops are not Amphibious Assault vessels. Both of the Hyuga class and both of the Izumo class have no well deck. They can carry some troops, but they are designed to operate principally as the center piece of an ASW task force.

They can also operate in an Air Assault role in support of assault operations (including Amphhibious Assault by the Osumis or by allied amphibious assault vessesl), or as command vessels for various types of task forces...and of course the humanitarian role too.

The training the experience the discipline of the JMSDF is second to none one of the most professional fighting forces in the world and the best of Japan's military lies historically with its navy and that is true today

With 2 x Izumo Class
2 x Hyuga Class
And 3 x Osumi Class JMSDF has some of the best flag top ships in the world

By 2020 JMSDF will have a 3,000 strong marine unit based on the USN Marine Expeditionary Unit equipped with V-22 and F35B

Putting it simply I believe JMSDF will be able to contribute independently a fully fledged Amphibious Assault Group that means the ability to do recon, surveillance, suppression of enemy defences and assault

Also we can look forward to the new AEGIS DDG coming together

Japan looks to obtain AIM-120C7 air-to-air missiles
By: GREG WALDRONSINGAPORE Source: Flightglobal.com 10 hours ago
The US Defense Security Cooperation agency has notified congress about a possible sale of 17 Raytheon AIM-120C7 AMRAAM missiles to Japan.

The deal, which will be conducted under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) mechanism, is valued at $33 million, says the DSCA.

In addition to the 17 missiles, the package includes two captive air training missiles, test and support equipment, spare parts, documentation, and other elements.

The DSCA adds that Japan already uses an earlier variant of the AMRAAM, the AIM-120C5.

I think Japanese Navy is more powerful than any navy in EU. It only needs SSBNs.

Looks as if JMSDF is going to adopt the Cooperative Engagement Combat system developed by Raytheon.

Simple graphic on how this system works.

With this system for example the firing solution can be sent from a US Navy ship/plane to a JMSDF ship behind or vice versa to intercept incoming missiles.
