Acutaully, the government has already designated the fighter as J-14. So you are right. Its already known that J-XX is J-14.

【大公報訊】繼殲-10之後，中國正積極展開新一代戰鬥機的研發。據外國軍事刊物估計，這是一種第四代高性能、多用途、全天候重型制空戰機，具備出色的隱身能力，有望在2015年左右進入現役。

《國際展望》雜誌稱，2006年，西方軍事媒體開始聚焦中國下一代戰鬥機的研發項目。以《珍氏防務周刊》為代表的一批國外軍事媒體相繼報道了中國正在研製新一代戰鬥機的消息。

採用吸波塗料加強隱身

英國《珍氏防務周刊》的報道稱：中國最主要的兩家戰鬥機製造商──瀋陽飛機工業公司（瀋飛）和成都飛機工業公司（成飛）正在為中國空軍研製第四代戰鬥機。中國的第四代戰鬥機有望在2015年左右進入現役。新戰機的發動機和武器子系統的研製工作已經進行了一段時間。概念驗證機模型顯示該機同美國的f-22a隱形戰鬥機有某些相似之處，比如內置的武器彈艙。該項目目前還處在概念驗證階段。《珍氏防務周刊》總編克雷格．霍伊爾在接受法國著名科技雜誌《新發現》採訪時說，中國的下一代戰機具備出色的隱身能力，根據《珍氏》獲得的模型照片來判斷，它的雷達隱身能力與美國隱身戰機十分接近。而且它還採用了吸波塗料來加強這一效果。

《珍氏》的報道聲稱，目前，瀋飛正全神貫注於一個f-22a級別的隱身戰鬥機項目──j-12戰機項目的研製；成飛則在j-10的基礎上研製一種雙發隱身戰機──j-13。

《珍氏》聲稱，大約在20世紀90年代中期，中國航空工業開始進行第四代戰鬥機的預研工作。1998年，美國海軍情報署的報告聲稱，瀋飛正在研製一種先進的的雙發隱形戰鬥機，項目名稱為j-12。2003年底，一張在互聯網上流傳的戰鬥機風洞模型可能與j-12項目有密切關係。

可能具備超音速能力

《珍氏》還說，在成功研製j-10（殲-10）後，成飛及其下屬611飛機研究所已將精力轉向j-10的雙發放大版，據報道，該項目被命名為j-13，它將與瀋飛的j-12項目競爭中國空軍第四代戰鬥機的採購合同。據報道，j-13可能具備超音速巡航能力，最大起飛重量可能超過20噸。基於以上情況，j-13應該是一型高性能重型制空戰鬥機，其性能在歐洲「颱風」戰鬥機和法國「陣風」戰鬥機之上，但恐怕還無法與f-22a猛禽相提並論。

《珍氏》認為，中國第四代戰鬥機將是一種全新的高性能、多用途、全天候的空優戰機。飛機以重型、低成本為主導思想，以高性能、高生存力、高作戰效能為設計目標，要求飛機有大推重比，非加力超音速巡航；具有中國特色的隱身性能；具有很高的敏捷性和失速機動性。

德國《軍事技術》雜誌通過對網上流傳的想像圖對中國下一代戰鬥機（他們稱之為殲-14）的氣動外形進行了分析：殲-14將安裝電傳飛行控制系統為飛機提供自動穩定控制。從鴨式布局和機腹的進氣口可以看出，這種飛機的總體設計明顯地源於成飛在j-10開發中獲得的經驗。並大量使用了源於米格i.44演示機的技術。

we already had Jxx thread that I never known,it's so intresting.
I just wonder that Jene's reported the J13 will be heavy fighters and they compare it with Typhoon and Rafale seems not correct,because Typhoon and rafale are both midsize fighters.
people uselly compare J10 with Typhoon and Rafale,not the J13.
how about L15,nobady mansion it,I think it can be progressed to Qxx.
L15 looks some steathy design, it little bit looks like F35,I think Hongdu can research some attacker like JSF,but have to need more time to do that.
I think the first is must solve the problem of the engines,this is very important for all Jxx project.they need special engines.

I think the J-XX will be better than the F-35(JSF), but not as good as the F-22. In term of weapon load, range and thrust-to-weight ratio the F-35 is good but not outstanding. It is not that hard for the J-XX to surpass the JSF in these categories. Another drawback for the JSF is that it cannot supercruise.

Take a look at the L-15's instakes, not a stealthy design at all. You sort of need to hide your engine blades to get that title.

How do you know J-XX will not be able to supercruise? It might just have that ability once they field it. If I'm not mistaken China's domestic jet engine program is coming along. WS-10 has been certified. I don't see how you can predict that it won't supercruise at this point. Unless they have stated that they won;t seek that as a design consideration. And I haven't heard that when searching info on J-XX program.

I heard that Jxx needs more power engine than Ws10,just like Russia have to use Al41fn to incorporat their new design stealthy fighter.
Ws10 closed to Al31fn,which engine china will use at Jxx?
seems we don't have domestic engine for Jxx yet.
shall we buy engine from russia too?

L-15 does not have stealthy intakes and does not hide engine blades. It is after all, just a trainer. If stealth features are put in, that would simply add to its costs. Not worth it. It's already much better than any other LIFT that China has.

As for supercruise, they were saying that even J-10 would be able to supercruise in the future if it gets an engine with 20% more thrust.
