I don't think that rumour was ever particularly substantiated.

Maybe raised cockpit for better downward visibility?

This airframe looks *very* mature, in the sense that it seems to have most or all of its subsystems already integrated into the plane. If this plane is the equivalent to the 201X series of prototypes for the J-20, the J-35 might enter LRIP very quickly. 201X to LRIP was just under 2 years, and about 3 years to start of mass production.

I don't quite understand why it has a canopy like F-35B which would impact the aft view seriously.
