Geez think about it man What do you think might happen if the Russians decide that the Chinese plane is a threat as well as stealing the limelight from their 5th gen aircraft. Prior to Red Moon's views" I felt it its a perfectly legitimate viewpoint, if indeed they are relying on the 117S engine, especially in the preliminary/development stages.

And where's that super tank Jane's said China was building?

Re: New Generation Fighter

Using the 117S on the J-XX would be for the purposes of simulating the WS-15 (where else can you find a 14ton thrust engine with TVC available to China), rather than because of any deficiency with the WS-10.

Im not suggesting anything about the WS-10. Why I said one has "didly squat"unless you have the engine to do the testing that one really wants to do. Ask the Indians, despite their close relationship with the Russians, theres been times in the past when the Russians have been the "fly in the ointment" on items of military development/ or procurement. China too has had some troblesome experiences eg the engines for the J17 as regards exports to Pakistan.

Which institution is working on the WS15? still SAC? Probably should let CAC take care of this WS15, they seem able to deliver whatever they are undertaking. Sichuan folks are known to have the spirit of working extra hard and overcoming hardship.
actually the whole AVIC is working on that engine.CGTE (No.624 institution) is the chief design institution ,XAEC(No.430) is the trial produce and assembly plant.

Yesterday an eyewitness said the engines don't look like 31 nor TH.

Re: New Generation Fighter

by standard, this aircraft was to large for fighter aircraft,my estimate to be 20% bigger than F-22,the first thing come into my mind was very large jet fighter/bomber such as A-5 vigilant and TU-28 "fiddler" interceptor, both are consider dissappointment and short service life, before end up in scrap yard....
But I remain puzzle by the size, until more information is release, one can not jump into conclusion.

According to China aviation News, early this year the full scale FWS-15 prototype successfully ran for the first time(FETT)...

Re: New Generation Fighter

I don't see where all the clamoring about its size comes from. It looks like a pretty standard sized heavy fighter at around 20 meters long.

Re: New Generation Fighter

Man, I'm looking at a lot of members here sounds like some fanatical fanboys...it's completely irrelevant as to the pics and the existence of the J-xx/J-20 project - to go by the Chinese official R&D policy, it's beyond doubt that it is under way, but that has no relation to the recent pics...they smell too much like doctored stuff by all aspect.

Clinging to bunch of low-res PS pics and claim J-20 exist is like...what those UFO nut-jobs been doing all these years. If you want to behave like matured and educated enthusiasts, unlike those retarded fanboys I've seen flooding the China/Taiwan net-space, then wait and see till there're more creditable pics available.

I, along with most on this board, have been ignoring your drivel, but calling us retarded fanboys is crossing the line.

Thanks maya, your contribution is always welcome. I've read some rumors about it completing high altitude testing, do you know if there's any truth to that?
