Well I know someone posted one of these pics before which is supposedly a likely candidate for the J-XX. Looks similar.

Comparing to the two SAC's earlier concepts shown in Zhuhai's airshow, you can see the remarkable reassemble, especially the blended leading edge/strake wing part

It is likely the SAC just tried some CAC's ideas here to make these concepts.

Very similar to the arragement proposed in Song Wencong's 2001 paper, except the latter has small, all moving rudders like the PAK-FA and smaller aspect ratio to reduce drag. And eventhough Song's paper didn't talk about DSI, it is very likely given the experiences with JF-17 and J-10B.

at LIMA airshow held in malaysia, most european,US and russian aerospace company has doubt China able to produce 5 gen. fighter.
in the engine area, Solyuv ,which manufacure AL-31 and 41,and currently testing the 117S 14500 kg. thrust jet engine for T-50 do not believe China will even field advance jet engine in the next 10 years.
according to wforum, RAM technology has no problem, but the engine and electronic ,particular the radar and her complex solfware was main bottle neck.

Who care about what they say.

Fifth generation most important element is its stealth. As long as china can make the plane stealthy, getting closer enough the F-22 to fire the missile, that's all it need. Supercruise is luxury, and might be unnecessary.

Heck, Stealthy body with WS10A can even do damage against F-22.
needless to say against F-16D, F-15 silent eagle, SU-35.

China already has AESA fielded on J10B.

it ain't a zero Sum game even if CHina can't field a supercruise engine .

Let's retain those doubts, so we can snicker in their faces if - when China flies the J-XX shall we?
But seriously, the interview on Air Force Day last year I think pretty much sealed the deal with the Chinese 4th gen plane... They wouldn't allow such a high profile general/officer dude make his claims if they weren't backed up - China just like... isn't like that.
Chinese general talking about Chinese top secret project > Firms from other countries talking about a Chinese top secret project - me thinks.

Let's stop detracting from the J-XX discussion and speculate some more, while keeping in mind some of the wise caution.

Good point. Does anyone have a copy of Song Wencong's 2001 article?

Re: New Generation Fighter

I feel dead certain this new picture is really it. This really is the J-20. Congratulations to China :china:

The angles line up, the body and wing are totally blended. This is not F-22 level of RCS; this is F-23 level of RCS. The vertical stabilizers are really small thanks to TVC. The entire canard delta set up looks extremely agile -- even more agile than Eurofighter. Together with the two 15-ton thrust 2D TVC supercruising engines under development, the canard delta is at a big advantage at high speed. With F-22 style stealthy nozzles, it is clearly optimized for all-aspect stealth. So this is why President Hu paid a visit to CAC!

The disadvantages? It can't carry as much ordnance as say T-50. It looks roughly the same size as F-22.

Next, China needs to develop a fighter bomber -- a delta-like conventional layout with blended wing, and engines wide apart like T-50 to allow for big bays and electronics in the tail.

Or alternatively, it could just build something like the Anjian / Anying unmanned UCAV.

Re: New Generation Fighter

Let's do worst case scenario, Let's say CHina can't make that supercrusing TVC engine.

Can such stealth design like above with WS10A , AESA radar and BVR weapons go against F-22 and T-50?

what chances do you give them?

Personally, I think such worst case design can still do serious damages against the opponents
