Re: Latest J-20 picture rotated for ease of viewing

Wow this is the clearest picture by far. I wonder how close the guy got to the plane.
My guess is that this is the first picture not taken by a camera phone. The guy probably tried to hide his camera at an off angle and zoomed in, which explains the improved but not so great picture quality.

I think the #2001 just is a prototype and it is still in roll test in runway, they may improve it before flight test. I think the moving tail wing also use for test, that means the tail wing is not the final design.
F117 serviced about 1990, its slow and backward, I doubt the moving tail wing could be broken when the fighter in supersonic speed, I am not sure, I don't see F22 and F35 are moving tail wing.
if I am wrong, please correct me.

On the other hand it could be that China has made enough advances in materials to implement a tail design that's "structurally weak". Forward swept wings are always "structurally weak", but that didn't stop the US and Russia from testing the concept.

Re: New Generation Fighter

It’ s overall as expected: it has a very stealthy shape for RCS reduction, fully 5gen like F35 and F22, but it has conventional engine exhausts, hurting IF signature. Another pros is that it has been tested at end of 2010 so it will be probably in service in 2015, before the 2017 timeframe indicated in a previous report of US intelligence. Another cons is that it will probably fly thanks to Russian engines, but if even chinese source admit that China engine problem won’t be solved before 2012-2015, it is not a unconceivable thing.
For me the pros greatly exceed cons, it ‘s a step to close the gap with west military tech, in the future I’m sure that they will modify the design and produce a even better plane

Re: New Generation Fighter

I don't think it will fly as early as 2017. The YF-22 was completed in the early 90s and it took until the early 2000s for the plane to go into production. China has less experience with the production process and the engine is still going to be a bottle neck. 2020 is probably the more conservatively fair estimate.

I just realized that the long shape (and maybe wide body?) of the plane probably makes turning harder to do. That's probably why the canards were necessary in addition to TVC.

Aircrafts with all moving tail wings and they don't scream slow, quite an opposite:

True but remember that F22 induction was delayed by budget constrain, and by the end of cold war that reduced the necessity of such plane and slowed down the acquisition process.
As for JXX, time will tell, but I am confident because I don't think this is the first taxi drive at all: considering the pace at which chinese disclose information, I wouldn't be surprised if the first test of such ariplane have been realized several times ago.

Re: New Generation Fighter

And where's that super tank Jane's said China was building?

It's already operational for a few years. Larger in size than all other MBTs, with dual guns, and can include a choice of a bunker, propaganda tower, or gatling guns on top. It also have depleted U shells and nuclear reactor upgrades. google up overlord tank

Re: New Generation Fighter

Man, I'm looking at a lot of members here sounds like some fanatical fanboys...it's completely irrelevant as to the pics and the existence of the J-xx/J-20 project - to go by the Chinese official R&D policy, it's beyond doubt that it is under way, but that has no relation to the recent pics...they smell too much like doctored stuff by all aspect.

Clinging to bunch of low-res PS pics and claim J-20 exist is like...what those UFO nut-jobs been doing all these years. If you want to behave like matured and educated enthusiasts, unlike those retarded fanboys I've seen flooding the China/Taiwan net-space, then wait and see till there're more creditable pics available.

Look who's talking. Insulting the others just to promote you and your egocentric beliefs. And also failing the critical thinking's rule of adequacy. You are very convincing...not. You're acting very mature.....really?
