Re: New Generation Fighter

Buried in all the J-XX news of late there was some talk on some of the boards of a high altitude test for the WS-15. If true, does that give an indication of the timeframe if all goes well?

Maybe the J-XX beginning test flights with the WS-15 by 2014-5, though actual service won't be until a couple years later, at least.

Re: New Generation Fighter

For those who think that'd be too much work to go into faking it just to screw Pinkov, perhaps you chaps forgot that bald guy once made a wager in calling China can't roll out 4th-generation (by Western standard) fighters within 4 years, and he'd have Kanwa close down the Chinese publishing if he was wrong...if I remember correctly that wager is close to the deadline and I won't be surprised that those in China want to take a swing at someone that draw a lot of their hate.

For one I'm dead broke to make a bet, and for two it's just too early to call it real deal.

See, if they want to give a display for the leaders, if it need not for a demo flight they don't need to toll it outside, just do it inside a hanger would be sufficient; neither would there be any need to toll a mockup outside.

And not just it's too early to call, the level of wishful thinking displayed here is...disturbing. Besides, the insignia on the tailfin is non-standard, and PLAAF has the standard enforced quite strictly; colors ain't primer and neither the standard air-superiority scheme used across the board. RAM material? Perhaps but why not in the standard air-superiority scheme, like the Americans'?

Until there're clearer pics and better, at takeoff/landing ones, I maintain my stand in not taking them for real.

according to criteria of adequacy in critical thinking, your theory fails to provide a better argument as well as a weaker one. what u're saying is that the fans actually wanted to bring kanwa down by going through all the pain and troubles to produce images at different angles and keep it consistent

Maybe it could be Kanwa's competitors, for all we know.

Or a foreign agency that's tired of his downplaying the PRC military industrial complex putting a dampener on American/NATO big ticket purchases.

Conspiracy theories do not make for good reality. There are much better ways to take down a publisher than to try to make him lose a bet he probably wouldn't have kept anyways.

Have you read his conditions for the bet? Based on what his definition of a "5th gen" is, there is no friggin way he'd lose the bet.

I was just kidding around.

Back to topic, what are the chances of them installing the radar by 2013, assuming they haven't done so already.

Hehe, just in case someone took it seriously. If they're doing flight testing soon it's probably already got a radar installed. My money's on it using the same radar as the J-10B for now.

70092 said the radar was already finished, I think it should be installed sometime after the first flight. I don't think it'd be the same as J-10B though. The F-22 and PAK FA have a 1500 element AESA whereas F-16E and F-35 have 1000 element AESAs.

Re: New Generation Fighter

big question, how much it going to cost? let see... J-10B cost something around $30 million, a JX could cost as much as $70~80 million per plane.
second this is just a prototype, production model may be different.
