Because if you don't, it'll spot you from 3,000 km away, track you from 400 km away, and blow you up from 150 km away.

3000 km for the DAS spotting a ballistic missile in boost phase, 400 km with the AESA depending on size/stealthiness of target, 150 km depending on weapon used and target.

But the :p indicates he obviously wasn't serious.

You are quite right steel, she was designed to be the Lo in a Hi Lo set, the Raptor being the Hi, so yes it is slow, no it wont turn or burn, we just better hope it is as stealthy and smart as the fanboys think, but her looks are growing on me. To be frank compared to the other jsf prototype she is an absolute living doll, but we better pray they put the Raptor back in production, because the JXX is looking like a winner. I would say that the JSF being our only fifth gen has given all of our buddies a little encouragement, because frankly nothing else on the page has a prayer of taking on the Raptor. The J-20 is honestly a very well thought out bird, and it really should give us all pause for thought.

i think the F-35 is not so bad, it has handling qualities of an F-16 at very low weight, so it will be better than F-16 fully loaded, it has lower RCS and can be built in larger numbers than F-22 with HMS and AIM-9Xs, pretty much a really good fighter, but of course what worries western analists is not J-20 it self, but the fact China has become a fully mature military power, and in future decades the western edge might simply not exist, even the west might lose if any advantage.
But looking how many F-22 the USA has and how many F-35s have been built up to now i would say the West worries more about the potential chinese aerospace development rather than the J-20 itself

The F-35's main advantage would be its extensive EW suite; compared to the J-20 and PAK-FA, it would combine high stealth with heavy EW jamming, leading to a BVR advantage even if it has inferior maneuverability in WVR and questionable maneuverability at BVR.

In the same way, the PAK-FA is using next-generation implementations of AESA; which is to say, there are L-Band AESAs emplaced onto its wings alongside an EODAS. We haven't really seen anything to compare on the J-20; the sole innovation is that the J-20 uses a canard-lerx-delta set-up to enable decent low-speed maneuverability while reducing its front profile and total drag.

What is at least interesting about the three stealth fighters is that they're all so different. While all three fighters have stealth capabilities, all of them have different special advantages that the others have not yet duplicated.

And what kind of extensive EW suite does F-35 have which other modern aircraft doesn't? Barracuda sounds like just the same deal, only more sensitive and pilot friendly. RWR, IR, RF defences etc (ESM), no active EW like growler though you can argue its APG-81 can jam, but then again that's not saying other AESAs can't, especially larger element radars in larger nosecones. Being larger aircraft themselves, PAK FA and J-20 would have more space for avionics (along with other things like weapons, fuel etc).

Just for the record, word is that J-20 will have an EODAS system as well.

If we're judging the F-35, PAK FA and J-20 in terms of avionics (logically assuming all three would come with modern EW suites and EODAS) the T-50 is among the more unique, from its leading edge L band AESAs. But then again J-20 is an unknown factor.

New Generation Jammer? do you mean next generation jammer? That was supposed to be a dedicated variant of the F-35, and not something that'll be aboard the A, B or C. I'm sure you can see how comparing NGJ based off F-35 is not a valid comparison with the likes of J-20, PAK FA or even F-22. Comparing A/B/C would be more valid, and they do not have any substantial extra EW capability beyond more capable variants of ESM from F-22 and other comparable systems.
