The fact of the matter is that aircraft design is all about trade offs, benefits on one thing bring disadvantages to another. We, with just our eyes, cannot really tell that much about what the J-20 is designed for.

My personal belief is that it is halfway irrelevant. The J-20 is simply designed to be as ferocious as possible so that the United States will stay out of the region.

I personally think that the J-20 is agile enough to confront other 5th generation fighters should the situation arise. If it were designed purely as a striker or interceptor there would've been no need for the installation of the side weapons bay for IR missiles. However I do think that the plane will have significant air to surface capabilities. Note how high the landing gears are compared with the F-22 and note how the F-35, though a smaller plane than the F-22, had higher landing gears as well. Higher landing gears could facilitate the loading of large air to surface missiles.

Length gives you a longer momentum arm so it's easier to turn your nose

For aircraft of the same shape but different size the larger aircraft has a larger moment of mass and so it is slower in following the control surface deflections. It is less easy to turn your nose.

when are those photos taken? 4th or 5th test flight? if test flights are going on so regularly, then it means either some of these flights aren't major events(minor test flights), or that the J-20's testing phases are moving along at a very fast pace. lastly, it can also be that CAC planned to make a lot of small test flights in contrast to a few big ones. anyways these are my blind guesses, but i really do want to see more photos, and videos if possible, of J-20 conducting more sophisticated tests and maneuvers that will shock everyone.

i hope the j-10,j-11? jh-7, fc-1, and ultimately the j-20 are in hawx3 or sth. they should also include panavia tornado, harrier, f-35 in the game

I see a very nice and interesting picture - most likely taken from within the CAC-airfield !!! - but with a very bad position of the logo :(

I don't see anything too strange... Or is this pic psed?

What is that yellow reflector looking thing at the back? It has puzzle me for a long while now.
Its pretty unusual I would think. I am surprised nobody raise the question of what that is.
