Guys, according to the "live broadcast", the J-20 didn't have its wheels retracted during the maiden flight. Does it just to imply it ain't a "fiberglass model with engines in it" or something else?
Look at videos of flight tests for other aircraft, and you will see landing gears are not retracted during first flight.

the more i think about it, the more i feel that the J-20 was readied much earlier ago than december 2010. the fact that it's not in yellow paint means it probably had flown in its yellow stage earlier prior to this, so in a way, the J-20 may not be just a simple prototype, but a product very close to operational status. this current paint may mean not only to "dress it up" for the show, but perhaps it's also ready for advance testing, so the project is actually much ahead than most of us had anticipated. the leak must have been intentional, expecting it to hit the public and mass media thru viral marketing. this may be a message to the 3 aircraft carriers(as some video mentioned), so PLAAF is just revealing it earlier than scheduled. sorry if this seemed farfetched, but all these exposures are no coincidence, which is definite, if the rest of my arguments are to be dismissed

Well, all I know is that there is no coincidence with the Chinese govn't. Everything with the CCP is carefully planned and executed... So I am definitely in favor of the view that this plane has flewn before, which gave the leadership the confidence to go public like this. they didn't just broadcast it on TV, like the launch of Shenzhou 6, but actually allow people to see it. They definitely expect foreign journalists among all those spectators outside the fence.

yeah that's been the rumour on the net recently...and i agree with your theory. given the delicacy of this project and the conservative tradition of the Chinese they most likely already did one or possibly more Russian engine flights before this one...this is more like a bureaucratic procedure for the bosses...sorta like a way to suck up to them or something like that lol

Not to start a fight, but I just read that: "India's first indigenous light combat aircraft, Tejas, was handed over to the Indian Air Force on Monday for initial operational clearance."

Sorry, but comparing these two aerospace events in neighboring giant countries, China wins hands-down!

IMHO, I think reviewing the J-20 has much to do with the swearing in of the new conservative dominated US congress. This bird will give the new congress plenty of ammunition to call for the restart of F-22 production. Perhaps we are see the Chinese's strategy at play? I.e. keep the US in debth, and thus limiting its ability to carry out military operations.

somebody here must be familiar with the testing phases for aircraft under development. given the rate at which this aircraft did its taxi and onto this flight...is this normal speed or faster?

So this is the first flight for the J-20 with domestic engines.
