Just because so called "experts" claim that J-20 is a strike-fighter, that doesn't change the fact that J-20 is a fighter classification.

I have posted this earlier:

Even Chinese media and officials use the J-20 designation.

A member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) indicated on March 3 that China has enough confidence to research and develop the J-20 stealth jet in order to protect national airspace safety.

"We have the confidence to research and develop the J-20 stealth jet." Zhu Heping, a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), told a journalist from the Xinhua News Agency, before the opening meeting of the Fourth Session of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

The Chinese J-20 stealth fighter jet finished a test flight on January in 2011. Meanwhile, U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates visited China on Jan., and Gates indicated that there were still distance between the U.S. stealth fighter F -20 and Chinese J-20 stealth jet, so they do not worry about it.

"If a country deploys a J-20 stealth fighter jet outside its own territory, it is an offensive weapon and a deterrent deployment. We will only deploy it on our own territory to protect our territorial security," said Yin Zhuo, a major-general of the Chinese navy and a member of CPPCC.

"Who are the attackers or defenders? We can see clearly at a glance," said Yin.

The defpro article claims that J-20 and F-22 have the same length, which pretty much discredited the rest of the article.

More of a matter of convenience than anything else, until proven otherwise - officially this is still Project 718, J-xx is when it officially assigned a designation by the PLAAF but we've heard nothing about it as of now. In fact, the designation of "J-20" was first float about in the internet, a guessed designation and then even the mainstream media catch on.

For Chinese government however, while they exploited this experimental model for a very successful PR campaign, there's still no official admittance of its existence, like more details of it (face it, CCTV or Xinhua just used net photos and overseas articles for their pieces on the J-20 anyway) or its official designation. And if it turns out to use another designation, or simply a technology demonstrator, I won't be surprised either.

You do realize that the number that comes after the 'J' in J-XX is irrelevant here right? :p

This is a plane made for the J-XX requirements. Give you three guesses for what that 'J' stands for.

I have a plea here, to those modulators who regulates what is to put on the table and what is to throwing away:

PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT DELETE THE PREVIOUS TWO PAGES OF DEBATES.

They are relevant instead of off topic. The previous two pages of debates, is a shining light as we fumble at the dark path to peek through the clouds, and have a FEELING of the truth.(OF which the "clouds" are purposely created by Chinese, Western and Russian medias)

I believe anyone can find his own "side", according to the previous debates, and known that he is not alone of his opinions, this is how we grow up, how a forum grow up.

Here is my salt to add to this pot:

The EXPERT Mr. Zhang zhaozhong, when he speaks at the TV show that J-10B is THE 4th generation fighter (4th or 5th, next generation), he is trully doing a good job for what he meant to do.

The EXPERT, US DEF sec Mr. Gates, when he speaks at the congress and showing on TV across the whole nation, that he is confident country like China can not produce any CREDITABLE next-gen fighter at earlist till 2020, he is trully doing a good job for what he meant to do.

The EXPERT, Russian analysts, when he (they) speaks at TV show (or magazine interview) that by all the information gathered by him (them), he is (they are) confidently understanding the true potential / true "role of play" of the newly publicly revealed J-20 - he is (they are) trully doing a good job for what he (they) meant to do.

And I feel tasty for the salt I add to the pot, I trully meant for what I am doing.

The guy invited to a Hong Kong talkshow for his report on J-20's first flight said that he saw the J-20 again recently. One of the tail fins was removed, possibly for maintenance.

You must've missed some part of the news where it quoted the officials in regard to China's stealth fighter.

In my opinion, this is very close to official admission of the existence of China's stealth fighter. These officials wouldn't even be commenting on it if they don't have good knowledge of it and have discussed it among themselves. As to whether the officials really did refer to the stealth fighter as J-20 and whether the quotes were the exact words of the officials, this can only be answered by the reporter of that piece of news.
