Some key takeaway
Yankee sama confirmed the J-20 we are familiar with is the basic version.
J-20A single seat with hump back&WS-15 is the complete version.
J-20B dual seat is for royal wingman & UAV control.
J-20 production surpassed F-22 is not planned but rater a reaction to foreign military pressure.
Due to the large production number of J-20, they are able to make some meaningful improvements to the later batch.
This benefit J-20A development because it no longer bond to deadline but at the same time the bar has been raised for J-20A.
J-20B tested new material, structure and manufacture technique for J-20A.
J-20A will spark the debate about the definition of 5.5 gen fighter.

So how do we define a 5.5th-gen fighter?

If F-22 is "5", then F-35/J-20/Su-57 are already that "5.5" compared to it.
As far as I can tell, however, F-35 Blk.4/J-20A(B)/Su-57M are quantitive upgrades over their base models.
They're ultimately the same aircraft, but with a decade of progress added in.

I think F35 and Su57 are sitting ducks facing F22 and J20

I think the best answer about "how do we define a 5.5th generation fighter" both for academic purposes and for practical purposes of this thread, is that we don't yet know how to define it confidently, and it is only likely that we will be able to confidently pinpoint it in retrospect well after 6th generation capabilities are defined (which hasn't occured yet).
After all, the whole "0.5" generation norm comes from a generation of fighters having some features of the full subsequent generation.

Putting it another way, the best way to view the statement that J-20A(B) will "spark debate about the definition of a 5.5th gen fighter," is it's basically another way of saying that J-20A(B) will have some capabilities of the anticipated 6th generation... With the proviso that we don't know what those specific capabilities are for J-20A(B), and that we don't know what the full extent of 6th gen capabilities will be either.

So it's probably unironically better to avoid thinking about the question.

And also better for the thread to stay on topic as well.

F-22 lacks:

All the EW buzz(now popular under names "electromagnetic spectrum" or "electromagnetic maneuver"), i.e. offensive/defensive EW;
Any proper connectivity, especially high bandwidth one (and gets it only through suspended containers - on a plane with no EW);
Visibly inflexible 1990s architecture(struggles to add new armaments and internal equipment), aggravated by unique language

For all intents and purposes - it's a stealthy, (early)AESA counterpart to Eu canards. Short-term, in a largely PD(and often analog) world of 2000s and early 2010s it was a silver bullet.
In 2020s it's simply out of place.

Yes, it's probably still an incredible 1v1/2v2/4v4 aircraft for a knight tournament. Not sure that matters to its user.

So, while i typically don't like this generation thingy - the point that F-22 and J-20/Su-57/F-35 don't belong to the same capability band, and F-22 can't even be brought up to that level(unlike 4/4.5 gen aircraft) can't be overcome.

Sigh i thought I was being quite obvious saying “better for the thread to stay on topic”

The point of my last post was to acknowledge that generational differences are a complex topic and in context of the specific point raised, we do not know yet what constitutes 6th gen and thus by extension what constitutes 5.5th gen, and we don’t have enough information to speculate (e.g. we do not know if the differences between baseline F-22 and the current emerging variants of 5th gen fighters will be enough to differentiate the latter as 5.5th gen, without first knowing what 6th gen is, especially in context of F-22 upgrades), and that this isn’t the thread for it anyway.

Further posts on the matter will be deleted.

Now that WS-15 is out, where is the new article on the Diplomat?
