Which airbases in the STC have J-20s right now? Shaoguan and Guilin?
care to explain which unit is based at Shaoguan? … out of memory I can’t remember

Sure I'm happy to look for the unit number. Here are some articles to start with from Baidu. It was apparently a dual-use airport (military airport constructed in 1970) for a time from 1986-89, but the civilian function was not restored until 2014-2017 period. Maybe ChatGPT could help a bit as well lolBut still have no unit listed within the STC at Shaoguan … Scamble.no too does not list any active unit there!

Any chance it could be the former Unit 87369 (Logistics)? This unit number is clearly from the pre-2015 reform (so part of the former Guangzhou Military Region). Have you heard of it?But still have no unit listed within the STC at Shaoguan … Scamble.no too does not list any active unit there!

A academic paper on the development of a Chinese electro-optical targeting system (EOTS). A prototype has been flown tested and verified to perform to satisfaction.
Abstract: An embedded photoelectric search aiming and indication system suitable for stealth airborne platforms was developed, which has the functions of wide-area reconnaissance, staring surveillance, laser ranging and laser irradiation. The wide-area scanning control technology for the optical image motion compensation of geographical stability combined with fast-steering mirrors was deduced and verified, and the algorithm verification was carried out in the laboratory and outfield based on the prototype. The test results show that under the premise of clear imaging, the proposed system realizes the two-dimensional seamless wide-area scanning search function, which can splice and display the scanned video images in real time and meets the functional requirements of information warfare for target reconnaissance, surveillance and indication.
so this is better than current EOTS equipped in J-20A .. ? means its newer generation EOTSWhen this enters service with J-20B it will provide air to surface capabilities, among other things and sophisticated imaging.
Doesn't EOTS on J-20A already provide air to surface capabilities? The paper is about an improvement to enable high resolution in wide area in the same way as "Advanced EOTS" for F-35 block 4. I believe this new EOTS is the equivalent to LM's "Advanced EOTS".When this enters service with J-20B it will provide air to surface capabilities, among other things and sophisticated imaging.

The paper quoted this link from LM where it shows two video clips of the their "Advanced EOTS".

Yes. The key objective is to enable high resolution in wide-area reconnaissance mode (as high as staring mode) by scanning and stiching in real time. The earlier generation only reaches high resolution in staring mode by telephoto lense. In wide area mode, wide angle lense is used on the same sensor leading to lower resolution (same pixel count on a large field of view). The new EOTS uses the telephoto lense for wide area by introducing a scanning mirror. Each frame covers the whole sensor and the frames are stiched in real time creating a larg image of high resolution.
