The canards are there. Just blacked out.
I noticed the black spots. But I couldn't figure out how the canard was positioned in that way, maybe it is optic illusion. The front edge (yellow) and inward edge (red) gives me the impression that the canard is bent to the fuselage instead of simply deflected around the axis somehow. So I thought of the black spot as some post processing of the photo in the paper for whatever reason.

Anyway, I saw the shadow of the canard on the floor now.

I think someone painted over in MS Paint, as opposed to some kind of black tape on the model itself.

The 97th who transitioned from J-7 to J-20, according to Ayi. I thought it was discussed a little in this thread as well as rumor about Chongqing.

Btw it is so quick that

Well ... so far I heard nothing concrete concerning the 97th. More however about the 98th transitioning to J-20A while its J-16s went to the 97th.
And also there are quite reliable reports about the 131st being currently under conversion.

In terms of definite confirmed units with photo evidence, I think the summary is:
-Dingxin
-Cangzhou
-9th AB
-8th AB
-5th AB
-1st AB
-56th AB
-111th AB

Additional ABs that have been rumoured but no photo evidence yet:
-55th AB
-97th AB
-98th AB
-131st AB

I.e.: potentially up to 10 air brigades that are either: converted, or are converting, or starting to convert to J-20s -- as well as Dingxin and Cangzhou each of which have smaller J-20 complements than a regular air brigade.
Would this be a reasonable summary?

Overall I totally agree with you, however - maybe I missed something - I rate the rumours concerning the 97th less concrete than concerning the 98th. Maybe you can help to refer to the report I don't remember anymore.

I agree 97th is somewhat less substantiated than 98th, however I also think that there is enough noise for 97th to put it on the "potentially converting" list.
