Throughout Chinese history, censorship has always just been a bait to provoke more literary creativity, in the long run. All censorship ever does, is to make our language more and more intricate, sophisticated and more profound.
For example, if there are never any censorship, then 同性恋 would just be 同性恋. But because of censorship, we have beautifully poetic vocabularies like 断袖、餘桃、对食,etc.
On the contrary, Westerners just have plain and mundane vocabulary like "gay", "lesbians", “homosexuals”, etc., which are vulgar and plebian.
