As an apology for my stunt from yesterday…
Practicing for Zhuhai? I sure hope this year's J-20 performance has something more noteworthy than a few lazy rolls.

Just an observation... Engines are still emitting smoke...I doubt it. This is a yellow primer bird. Probably just routine testing before delivery to combat unit.

Engines do that. I have a video bookmarked with the timestamp for just such an occasion:Just an observation... Engines are still emitting smoke...
Have looked at the video twice from 12 to 15 secs... Looks like smoke... appears at least twice first at around 12 sec and then at 15 sec in the video... Can any one else have a look and comment on that @Bltizo @DeinoAre you sure that it is smoke and not heat distortion by the engine exhaust? To the best of my knowledge no WS-10 variant ever emitted smoke, not even the downrated ones first used on the J-11B.
Light will be distorted by turbulence in air. A jet engine expels host gas in much higher speed than the ambient air. High temperature and flow speed create different refractive index than static and low temperature air. The distortion will make the exhaust gas looks either lighter or darker. Therefor different shade behind aircraft does not necessarily mean smoke which is incomplete burn of fuel. And from a long distance you won't be able to tell the difference even if it is indeed smoke.
