He claims fuel consumption/efficiency (and range?) is slightly *worse* for 15 than 10C in comments though? That seems questionable..

Lower BPR, bigger core and higher thrust is almost always guaranteed to lead to an increase in fuel consumption, both relative as well as in absolute numbers.

Does Russia have anything similar to the WS-15 currently in service? I was thinking that if China's WS-15 made it to mass production then it basically mops the floor with Russia in this space.

In terms of advancements of each others relative programs. I’d say China and Russia are extremely similar. I’d draw parallels like delays of their respective 5th gen heavy engine AL-51F1 and WS-15 and incorporating 5th gen technologies into older engines like Izd 177S and WS-10C and Izd 177 and WS-10C2. So No, I wouldn’t say mop the floor. In terms of mass production, it’s sort of unfair to compare Russia and China. In terms of technology however it’s not too far off. AL-51F-1 is not a slouch engine and it’s meant to enter mass production soon as well. The Russian engine program is more open too. Little is known about the WS-15 while alot more is know about the 177 and product 30.

Let’s not talk about this in this thread though. I don’t think it’s appropriate.
I feel like if I say AL-51F-1 and WS-15 are equivalent I will somehow anger both the Russians and the Chinese.

Once the WS-15 enters into production? Yes, at least as far as military engines are concerned. Neither Russia, nor France nor the UK have comparable fighter engines.

That's what the cartoon is trying to say right? That WS-15 is now in serial production and is being fitted on new J-20A (numbers unknown)

A short lived victory at that, AL-51F-1 is supposedly in low rate initial production and is meant to scale up in 2026. The on going war may delay this reported schedule however. I don't think we can confirm the AL-51F-1 service until it's seen on production Su-57's. This goes for the WS-15 as well, it's all well and good to proclaim production. But until it's physically seen on production models. It's all comparisons between each others words and not proofs. Can we wait before making such grand sweeping statements?

I have a complementary suggestion.

Can everyone just pretend WS-15 doesn't exist until they've demonstrated two or three years of continuous uninterrupted production?
