Is there a reason why J-20 does not have a similar coating and tapes to F-35? The skin of the F-35 is just so much smoother while J-20's have so much exposed fasteners. J-35s do not have the same treatment either.

The J-20 displayed in airshow is from early batches.. so you seriously think, they did displayed newly manufactured J-20.. and J-35 overall finishing is far better despite from an initial batch for parade..

Wasn't the J-20 displayed here one of the latest J-20s built?

I think he meant J-20A/S. This still is a vanilla J-20.

I don’t think that stealth putty or tape is beyond China’s means since the part beneath the canopy and other areas of the airframe definitely use them. It might just be the result of tradeoffs. As long as sunk head fasteners are used and not actual rivets (that jut out and disrupt the airframe) I don’t think it is as a big of a deal as most people make it out to be.
