In fact, Chief Engineer Wang Haifeng has long stated in his papers that 2D vectoring is crucial for next-gen supersonic tailless stealth fighters. Vector thrust is not an additional measure, but rather a very important component in flight control.

I believe that even with engines more advanced than the WS-15, the J-36 and J-50 would still utilize 2D vectoring nozzles.
so in light of this statement, after the WS-15 enters serial production, would J-20 getting triangular TVC be more likely? I know that this statement pertains to "next-gen" aircrafts, but with the WS-15, would they see the thrust penalty from TVC be an acceptable sacrifice for increased maneuverability and stealth on the J-20 as well?

No, because the point of TVC for 6th gen is to assist with tailless flight control.
